Canada missing Makar and Theodore's puck moving/transition offense from the back end. Doesn't seem like they can create a lot on the rush and they're not much of a threat in the O-zone on the cycle when the puck goes back to the point.
Yup noted this as well. Lots of faceoff wins and cycles coming back to the D and they're not doing anything with it besides putting it deep.

Jack Hughes ~ Mitchell Marner

Drew is definitely better than what he has shown so far this year and this tournament, but he isn't the player he was during the cup or past Team Canada years. He was pretty good last year and in training camp/preseason till he fractured his ankle. He really isn't close to being healthy or 100% and absolutely, rushed it to get back on the Kings while they were struggling and to hope to play for Canada, but he's definitely not game ready and probably won't be until the start of next season.
To me they just have too much talent to choose from and with him coming off injury and play being unknown, think he should have been left off

It's been a long time coming but USA is finally able to play with Canada, talent for talent. It's not #1 vs #2/3 anymore. It's 1A vs 1B.

Not only that but the US is playing Canada’s own game much better than they are. One of these two teams looks like an old school rock em sock em team, the other one looks like team Russia if they had something resembling a defense but no goalies.

In some ways, it's really difficult to build around the Canadian forwards, especially MacKinnon and McDavid as they have such specialist elite skillsets.
Crosby was always easier to build around because he plays a prototypical centre's game. Same with Bergeron, Thornton, etc. of Team Canada rosters past.

Yeah, I'd rather have MacKinnon and McDavid than not, but it must be frustrating for coaches and even other linemates to try to gel with them.

McDavid and Marner didn’t really work in Game 1, but Cooper didn’t change it.

Put Marner on a line as the offensive driver and let him take on some of the other pairings and lines.
