This. Play hard. Play smart. Attention to detail.

No passing up a shot trying feather a saucer through two defenders or the dipsy doodling looking for the highlight reel play.

Just hard, fast, physical hockey. Those skill plays will open up afterwards, focus on playing hockey the proper Canadian Way and we’ll be just fine.

track pucks with urgency and support every puck battle.. no cheating for offense

Ok I must admit I havent seen the third peroid of that game. So maybe Slovakia could have gotten a point, I still dont see them winning the overtime against Canadas skill. I also beleive we have overall less talent than the Slovak on the team so thats that. Also what does significant pro experience mean to you? 15 Games with a low amount of ice time in the SL? I do agree with you that players like Jobin. Schläpfer, Marchand etc. should see more ice time, I just dont think that improves our chances to take something away from this game by that much. Maybe we score a goal more but thats about it.

Canada did have some bad luck as they hit iron a few times but they also didn't create a lot of grade a chances. Hlavaj was fair and wasn't to blame for the two he gave up but a better goaltender could have prevented both goals. On the first one he gives up two juicy rebounds and is then completely out of position for the 3rd shot. I think Fatton would have done better there, maybe give up rebound at all on the 1st shot. The 2nd goal he allowed was a breakaway but no clean one. Nice shot but not unstoppable. Besides that, Hlavaj made a few quality saves but mostly just routine ones. With our best players on the ice for 20+ mins and on the PP, I think this Swiss team would be capable of putting up a similar fight vs Canada than the Slovaks did. I actually think they would have won points vs Canada with Latkoczy in goal. Of course we'd need a good night from everyone, you can see that the Slovaks also had their down game yesterday, but it would be completely possible to get points...unless the Canadians play considerably better than vs Slovakia of course. Canada has to do a better job of creating odd man rushes or traffic in front of the net to screen the goaltender and for deflections.

You guys also tend to play us to pretty tough games, especially at the Senior level. Seems like it’s always a close tight checking game against the Swiss.

Yeah. But if we don't get our top center back from injury and if coaching doesn't improve then I don't think we'll be competitive today.

Its a fair assesment of the game but its couterfactual to just assume Fatton would have done better than the Slovak goaltender. He is just a mere mortal and can have a worse game than usual too. I also expect Canada much better than against Slovakia. They just stomped Germany before that game and their compete level was pretty down because of that. They had to listen to a lot of criticism since then though and will play more engaged tonight. You seem to assume that there is a good chance they will play on the same level as against the Slovaks wich I very much doubt.

The Swiss will have Nino Niederreiter today. You're allowed one age exception.
5-4 Swiss
Thank goodness for that age exception rule. It’s Edmonton, so we’ve had Connor McDavid chilling in the back room waiting for this very moment.

I would be all in for that rule but the player would have to be over 40 years old to even out the scale a bit:laugh:

This is not a good Swiss team. Canada will destroy them. Not the game that either team needs going forward.

Woo Hoo, Game Day! :fight:

Canada will comfortably cruise to a victory but double digit score projections are ridiculous. This ain't Denmark or 50% of a German squad. Predicting a fairly relaxed 4-0 win.

I’m less concerned with the score and more concerned about how we play.

Especially our forwards, if you’re wearing a Canadian sweater you are expected and demanded to forecheck relentlessly.

No more of this flyby stick checks, staple the D men and their forwards to the boards and ice every time they think about touching the puck in the their zone. The flyby stick checks might be okay in junior, but that shit is not acceptable when you’re playing for Canada. Love the grind and break the other teams will wave after wave. The boards should be rattling every time a puck is in deep. The skill plays will come afterwards once time and space are created by a relentless forecheck.

Play the proper Canadian Way and keep getting better. After Switzerland the games get real, time to build the right habits.

Our D need to play exactly how they did last game, they were tenacious defensively. Good physicality, gap control, and puck movement from them. Keep it up.

Go Canada Go!!

I am looking for a complete game today and if this gets less than a 3 goal difference I would expect trouble brewing ahead.
Forty plus shots on goal is a must.
I think the guys need a feel good game of discipline and attention to detail, if not then too many questions will arise and the Finnish game could really spiral south in a hurry.

I feel like we just had the game we needed in that tough test by Slovakia. The only way forward is a dominating win for Canada. For the Swiss, Canada is NEVER the game it needs.

Salzgeber is in. As is Alessandro Villa. Bottini and Delemont benched. Patenaude to start.

I put 25 Euros bet on Canada Swiss 7 goals total and russia austria 8 goals total only 60e return but i feel confident
