GDT: Canada vs Finland (U18)

There’s an easy solution, start earlier. CHL started on the 1st of October, Finnish Liga as a comparison started on 9th of September.

It’s ridiculous for youth hockey to be still playing when spring is in full bloom
It started on October 1st because of COVID restrictions impacting the ability of teams to allow fans. This is an anomaly year not the norm.

Overall medals is a whole different story and Sweden win that comfortably though but I guess people don’t think other medal round games are ”clutch games”? I think Sweden have been better than Finland in juniors recently for many reasons but consistency is the main one (there are some very long streaks that support that and gold isn’t everything). It’s also weird that people don’t look at Hlinka since it suits their argument I guess.

But yeah, this particular semi will be close for sure. How does one ”cheer for both teams” though?
Bro the copium you are inhaling seems strong, and in that regard you barely even have more medals, and we have like a bunch of more golds than you do, please come up with a legit argument if you are gonna claim such things, your better than this AB13, learn to humble yourself for one and accept that Finland is a superior nation over you in Junior tournaments, AINEC.

Its still sort of shocking to me that we keep winning these (types of) international games.
- we come from behind and win, totally dominate and win, win tight one goal games,

We really, truly have a winning culture in the professional sports nowadays (not just hockey).

We have come a long way, we were always the underdogs, the "little brother"
but now,..... we really are the favorites to win the gold, every time, at least in hockey,
no matter of the age group, mens, u20s, u18s, 17s... living the dream!.
Finland is not the favorite to win gold. Not even close.

Sweden statistically go further than Finland in most junior tournaments. It's not all about gold medals, or even medals. Junior tournaments are about producing good talent really. A good way to measure reliability of talent production is consistency. How far can you regularly go? How many games do you regularly win? I would argue that regularly winning groups and making medal games is a larger indicator of success than winning a few golds. We are talking about short tournaments heavily influenced by luck. I think consistency of performance is a better indicator of talent production at the junior level than anything else.

It's more fun to watch your team win some gold medals than it is to watch your team win every round robin WJC game for 15 years, of course. But it's less impressive. Sweden reach the semis and medal games more often than Finland, and win more medals. I mean Sweden have made it to the WJC semis in 13 of the last 15 tournaments I think. They do better than Finland most years. Finland might have won a few more golds, but that's largely just margins and luck. Would I rather have it that way? Yes. Does it mean Finland have been better at junior tournaments? Depends on the criteria.

Like if you asked me if the Blues are better than Tampa in 2019 I would obviously have said no. I would rather win a cup than win the Atlantic division ever year. But it's less impressive to win the Cup once and regularly just be half-decent in the regular season that it is to win no cups but be a Presidents Trophy contender every year.

Like i said your spewing out pure copium, the bigger the stakes, the bigger the competition, wow Sweden is better getting medals nobody cares about congrats! And you think Finland's 9 Gold vs Sweden's 2 Gold is just a "few" and all luck? Comon your clowning yourself too hard now man.

Sweden have 3 but whatever. 4 if you count Hlinka. And more medals at all levels. Sweden have 12 more medals at the U18s+WJCs+Hlinka. Didn't say the gold difference was all luck either. I said that Sweden have been more impressive. It's not all about performing in finals. It's about making the semis regularly, winning groups, winning medals. Over simplified, Finland win golds or lose in the quarters (on a few occasions even in the group stages). Sweden usually win medals or at least play semis. Swedens dominance over Finland and 10 gold medal, 30+ medal advantage in senior tournaments are a result of consistently producing better talents every year. Consistency of performance is a better predictor of future success than being "clutch" or whatever.

Oh yeah i forgot that 1st Gold you guys won like 50 years ago, totally relevant! Funny how you feel the need to bring in senior's to make your lousy argument's look good, what really count's is how your team does when it matters the most, and in the WJC's, Sweden is lackluster in this regard, also keep in mind that Finland is 3x more successful than your Små Kronor with half the population.

If you think golds = success and silvers = faliure you could say that. I don’t think that way. Finland can’t claim to be more successful than Sweden in juniors when Sweden finish the tournament higher like 75% of the time.

Maybe back in the day, in the recent 10 years this isn't even the case lol, you're argument would be more credible if we all lived in the past, but in the present Finland is much more superior that Sweden in WJC hockey, all evidence suggests this, you are here bringing Senior medals and statistics from a long time ago to argue why Sweden is magically somehow better than Finland currently allthough you have not given any evidence to suggest it to be the case what, so , ever. Have a nice day :)

Strongly disagree. When was the last time USA have won anything?

Besides the most recent WJC?

They finished 2nd in 2010 and 4th in 2014, which is the last two times unrestricted best on best actually occurred. They were considered the 2nd best odds on favorite to win coming into the 2022 Olympics, had NHL players participated.

And I'll take your dodging of my first point as acceptance that the US is indeed the favorite at this tournament. Glad I was able to change your mind.

USA lacks winning culture. At men's level precisely.

When was the last time Finland won gold in a best on best?
Maybe not best on best because we have not had a chance for that. But WCs (where were plenty NHLers) golds 2011, 2019 and Olympic gold 2022 is more than USA have archieved for decades. Last time USA won WCs it was in 1960.

It is true tho that Finland lacks Gold at best on best tournament. World Cup 2004 and Olympics in Torino 2006 we at least got silver.

It's almost like we send our C team to the WC.

Laughable to think that amateur tournament is what you use to measure the success of US men's hockey.

No matter which team you send, you always lose. Laughable to consider WCs an amateur tournament. But I can see your defense-mechanism taking action. No success means WCs don't mean anything.

So Finland has no best on best golds?

That's surprising considering how arrogant you are. I make one comment about how Finland is far from a favorite in this tournament (which is objectively true), and your insecurity triggers this sort of response?

I'm a big fan of Finnish hockey, they are a great hockey nation. Had a blast cheering them on in Helsinki for the 2016 WJC. But you need to understand that the men's WC hockey means very little in North America.

I think I'm done with you.
