GDT: Canada v Sweden (World Junior Showcase)

This. Terrible on that 3 on 1. He doesn't seem to have a goal scorer or playmakers touch. Great skater, and you can see he gives full effort. However, he really lacks offensive skill.
 
The team isn't competing enough. As far as I'm concerned, I'd cut most the players, I don't care. You put the jersey on and you have to compete, if you're not then you're off the team. All I want in a player is compete level because if they aren't competing they aren't going to win.

We should have a particularly aggressive team this year though. There are players like J.Gauthier, Knott, Kolesar, N.Roy, McLeod, who play physically, add possibly Crouse, Dubois, or Konecny, and it's a really physical team.

I hope so. When we have the full squad together we should be tougher physically. Konecny is an absolute animal, love the heart this kid plays with. Should wear the "C" in my view.

Seems like Canada has outplayed the Swedes in the 2nd and 3rd. Big props to Sandstrom he's definitely impressed me.

Congrats on the win Sweden, well earned victory! Canada needs to be much better going forward.
 
I have only watched the third period but it sure looks like Marner, as great as he is with the puck, is having struggles in physical situations.
 
Wow, that Canadian squad flat out sucked. Didn't compete, didn't move their feet, didn't go to the net, didn't get shots through, didn't move the puck fast enough out of the zone, didn't check well enough, didn't play smart. They did nothing well. We're going to have a hard time with Switzerland by the looks of it and the NHLers on our team (Strome and Marner) didn't look like top picks at all.

Sure it's just a summer exhibition camp, but these kids are trying to make the team and should be playing with a ton of effort and trying to impress. Nevermind the fact that this is nationally televised and they are playing with the Leaf on their jersey.

The other possibility is they are simply not good enough. I hope your view, however, is the right one.
 
Jolly good result. Early in the season could give some odd results. Still, this generation of Swedes might be slighly underrated.
 
This is probably true for most countries but many of our better athletes simply cannot afford to play competitive hockey anymore. Players like Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr if they were born in this generation may not haven even been able to afford to play hockey. That being said I realize the cost issue is probably in every country but unless something is done about it the numbers of players will simply continue to decrease. In our area many are turning to basketball, volleyball and soccer as alternatives.
 
Can someone who watched game please tell me how the following players looked?
