Actually now that I ponder about it..it's refreshing the IIHF changed the ice surface to nhl size for the Olympics.

Hockey needs physical contact to be true to itself. The right type of contact where it can make a difference. In this game there's none of that.

Once the penalty parade stopped we actually started seeing most of the play in Finland's zone.
That's the thing.. they don't panic when you gain their zone. They're quite comfortable in their zone. It is uncanny.

When the puck enters the Czech zone I need a muscle relaxant.lol

It's like three canadians in this thread being silly and at least the same number of finns. Use your ignore lists instead of unnecessary bullhonky

Now Jalonen's sysyem is on. Canada needs to score early on, or this will just be a bickering match.

Gonna be a tough defensive system to break down, 3 guys at the line like clockwork easily breaking up plays up the middle or funneling the puck carrier to the side with little options to do anything with the puck, they gotta figure this out or it's gonna be frustrating day.

Not the first period I wanted but after all the time killing penalties we had to put in it could have been worse. It's up to Gallant and his staff to get this team ready for period 2.

Im surprised he didn't go full yardsale trying to sell that 5 minute major after his earlier embellishment.

Hopefully his face isn’t too bruised up from that “high stick” that barely grazed his shoulder. The head snap back and glove to the face was too much.

Hopefully that angers the hockey gods.

Look at and see how the IIHF REALLY favours Finland. Oh wait, it does not.
That said, the refereeing has sucked all the tournament, no surprise the suckage will continue. It's just mildly surprising for a hockey fan to see the same suckage over and over every year in the IIHF championships.

Aside from Anttila selling the high stick i feel like Finland played hockey for once this period, i didn't expect them to have this kind of tempo after watching their bad overall performance this tournament.
