Or it's just a slow Friday afternoon in the office.

It is wild ot think how wuickly this guys stock went from Canadian Soccer Icon to a joke. I think this is it for him on this side of the pond.
Im off and at the cottage. I have no excuse.

Also, I actually love the idea of a CPL manager getting the job. I'm just not privy to the candidates available. I need something to bring myself back to watching TFC again.

My new dream for the current coaching saga in Canada....

TFC hire Bobby Smyrniotis, Vancouver hire Tommy Wheeldon JR. We get to see that rivalry continue at the next level and see two coaches get a well deserved step up in the world.

Then at the CPL level, both Cavalry and Forge sign new Canadian coaches, giving the two most winningest teams a new look and the league a potential change in power.

Side note - Atleti Ottawa also has an open coaching spot. Plenty of jobs to go around in Canada.

They don't have Uber in Munich? I mean, come on man. Makes for a great teaching moment for my kids.
For real. Some are being quick to say Phonzie had a legal amount of alcohol in him for many place around the world (Quebec included).... Personally, I hate that line of thinking. He isn't in Quebec or somewhere weher 0.6% alchohl is acceptable, he's in Germany where it's illegal.

Quiet day across the landscape but certainly worth noting Larin's goal in a start for Mallorca yesterday. Another big win as they creep towards the Champions league.

Justin Smith started for Espanyol in a huge 3-1 win for them. They are near the foot of the table and Smith went 61 minutes in their central midfield. He has to be on our radar does he not?

Junior Hoilett got a goal in a huge 3-0 win for Hibs at Motherwell. Hibs are now above Hearts and into 11th place in the Scottish prem.

In surprising news, Ayo Akinola is starting to hit his stride in the Swiss second division. Scored this weekend yet again.

Totally forgot about him.

JD had another brace for Lille, otherwise not a good day in the French league for our boys.

Sigur started on the outside right of a 4-2-3-1 for Split in a big win over Zagreb. Not only that he scored the only goal of the game so he is clearly showing his versatility. Played right back, played in a double pivot and now in attack.

Z Brault-Guillard played 90 for Lugano in a loss to Servette. Tight at the top.

I think I saw a quote from Rakitic basically saying the kid is going to be something amazing, is a hard worker, and is beloved in the team.

Great news in all respects.

We have moved up to 31st in the Fifa rankings. Our highest ever position and I still feel like it's too low for this team

Pumped to see what comes from 2025 for this group. Going to be a big year as we push on to 2026.
I think it would be cool if some international breaks were pair off matchups between teams similar in the current rankings. Share all stadiums between everyone to provide the most neutral sites for matches. For instance Canada vs Wales in say NYC, or Canada vs. Serbia in London, etc.

Canada rampaging through concacaf wc 2022 qualifying is my most gratifying sports fan experience.
That was peak sports. Nothing beats it.

I like the matchup Idea, would probably need to have games in host coutnries to esnure bigger crowds.

Does anyone have a deep understanding of how the fifa world rankings work?

It seems odd to me that that canada is ranked 31st while the US and mexico are both in the teens.

Given that Canada went much further in copa than the other two. The latest result with the US was a win on American soil, and although they have played a disproportionate amount of matches against the Americans on the road, they are still proving to be a very difficult out for them.

Why is there such a large gap? I'm aware that the ranking system has been criticized for its inability to match the reality, but this still stood out to me.

Europe today.

Nice got a win over Le Havre to keep them in the Champions league hunt. Bomb with a full 90.

Davies played 90 in Bayern's win over Heidenheim. Bayern are up by 6 points over Frankfurt which a surprise.

Ugbo was subbed off at half in Wednesday's draw. Just doesn't seem to be happening for him.

Johnston played 90 in a win over Hibs... Junny came on as a late sub.

Knight Lebel has been warming the bench since the international break. Is this a sign that Bristol are recalling him and Crewe are investing time in others?

Sigur played a full 90 in attack as Split took a road loss against Gorica.

Long forgotten Harry Paton continues to come off the bench for Motherwell. He's well off the Canada radar.

Choiniere was back from injury with a bench appearance in a draw for Grasshopper.

Not deep but I can maybe add some context.

It's Elo based and takes into consideration the match importance, result, etc. It it takes a long time to reverse years of loosing and bad form. Canada has been a great team, argualbly on par with the USA and definitely ahead of Mexico the past couple years. These results will likely need to contonue into the 2026 World Cup before it starts reflecting more.

The other thing is, we have not beaten too many teams above us recently. At Copa, we beat Peru and Venezuela, 2 teams near or below us in the FIFA rankigns. Big wins for Canada as a soccer nation, but not for FIFA's ELO system unfortunately.
