Starts tonight:

Interesting that it lost its main sponsor. I did not know that until just now. Could this be the last year of its existence? I certainly would be in favor of it ending...

but for now, there are games to be played.

Sanheim won't play neither of the two games due to injury, but still a strong defence with Hicketts, Juulsen, Fleury, Guhle, Clague, Mayo, and Bean.

Chartier, Quenneville, DeBrusk and Dube are missing up front

Nolan Patrick is one to watch though.. 2017 NHL-draft eligible, just turned 17 in September, but he's already 6'3'' and 195 lbs. 24 points in 18 games for Brandon, leads his team (with Hawryluk).

Of course Point should be the leader. 15 points in a 6-game streak in WHL now. Had a 5-point game lately with 4 goals ... I'm excited to see Barzal too.

The WHL team looks strong to me. I expect them to outshoot the opponent by a wide margin and probably will score more goals than usual imo.

Always a good test for the players on both sides. Hopefully no injuries. I'm looking forward to seeing different defencemen... that seems to be the biggest question mark for Canada.

As you know, I'm not a fan of this series...and haven't been after about the first 2-3 years.

but, I'll catch a few games and track a few players. :)

Russian players to watch (as I see it), not counting the CHLers:

- Kirill Pilipenko
- Andrei Svetlakov
- Danil Vovchenko
- Semyon Afonasevsky
- Artur Lauta
- Ilya Dervuk
- Ilya Kolganov
- Maxim Tretiak (just to see if he will be something else than awful)

I wonder how Vovchenko and Pilipenko fare against the W. Always fun series to watch.

it's live on Russian tv. For Russia's sake, I hope Tretiak doesn't play a lot of games

Best part of the game so far: Russia's new jersey's, those look super stylish. Why are they wearing them for these games?

Personal theory I have: Bragin took Tretiak to the SS to get certain people (ahem) off his back, so that he can later cut him before WJC.
