It's nice to see my team's drafted/signed prospects in a higher end event plus the draft eligibles. Doesn't really matter who wins the games but it's still good competition.

9 players from NA leagues:

USHL: G Berdin

WHL: D Alekseev, Minulin

OHL: D Samorukov, F Lipanov, Sokolov

QMJHL: F Abramov, Koltygin, Rubtsov

27 man camp roster of players from russian leagues:

G Melnichuk, Sukhachev

D D.Alekseyev, Yelizarov, Bogatov, Zaytsev, Makeev, Maltsev, Knyzhov, Kalinin, Kurashov, Shepelyov

F Altybarmakyan, Veryayev, Ivanov, Romanov, Slepets, Kara, Kukshtel, M.Maltsev, Manukian, Moiseyev, Polodian, Rasseykin, Rakhimullin, Tsyplakov, Sholokhov

Kara

Jake Bean is garbage.

He really doesn't seem good. Russian forwards have streaked past him a few times. Clague has had the best game among defencemen, without even considering his assists.

Phillips with the second goal.

Lind with the third goal to make it 3-0. Tap in after a nice mini-rush by someone... maybe Rasmussen.

1 year later and Jake Bean still sucks at hockey. Clague, Mahura looking really good from D. Lind, Rasmussen, Glass looking pretty good. Phillips is alright, got good skill but still gets rubbed out easily. Foote and Cholowski are a poor pairing, both really slow and sluggish.

Woof. It's 7-0 now. Russia changed goaltenders. The last goal was Dube, before that a nice one from Glass. Steenbergen had the fifth and... someone deflected the fourth.

Russians are pretty bad, they're missing some top offensive players, but defensively so slow.

Was hoping for from Steenbergen, looks too slow for this level. You can see 5-6 top WHL forwards who will make the WJC team, most of them playing well.

Many good players participating. Disagree.
Care to elaborate who they are, 'cause it looked like neither of them showed up.

The roster is garbage. Some useless SKA products, no future stars, noone can shoot the puck properly or convert on a breakaway. Zero vision. They are skating like blinds through the zones and couldn't find a teammate if their life depended on it. The WHL defencemen... Isn't the CHL supposed to be great at developing Russians? What the puck then happened to Minulin and Alekseev?

If I am coach everyone from this game today is out for WJC.

Well it's not like the CHL isn't trying hard. They changed the schedule back then to make the Russians start the series in the west one day after a 24h of flights and the most severe change of time zones. North Americans are always subtle about those things, I give them that. But they will do everything to make their leagues look better than they are. Come to Russia next time. I want to see how Canadians look after flying around half the globe with no time to rest.

Don't blame the CHL, these Russian d-men just suck.

You could try to develop these guys on Mars and it couldn't save them, they just aren't any f***in good.

Lind definitely the most noticeable skater for either team.

He’s on my Team Canada for sure.

Impressions from that game:

Hart looked really good, I'm sure he'll be the starter come January.

The Lind Glass Rasmussen line could be the perfect third line. They have Lind and Rasmussen playing a grind it out style but enough talent to score with Glass as well. This was the clear best line on the ice tonight.

Steel and Dube both looked really good. Locks to make team Canada I'm sure.

Steenbergen definitely didnt look as good as his stat line suggests. He'll be in a battle for a spot I think.

Jake Bean was probably Canadas worst player. It sounds like hes a lock (Bob Mackenzie) but I have no idea why. Turnovers, bad decisions galore tonight.

Foote could pivot a little bit better but him and Cholwski looked very good. I'm a wings fan and obviously biased but Cholowski may have been Canadas best defender tonight.

Mahura was kinda meh for me tonight. Did some good stuff, did some stuff I didnt like too. Same with Quennville. I wouldnt bank on either of them making it but tonight was just one game as well

Clague was solid

But I thought running away to the CHL converts russian defencemen to superstars... :)

Why shouldn't I blame the CHL? I am being told it's the best league for development all the time. If those D-men aren't any goid why are they in that league?

Not the end of the world.

That's why you have these tournaments, to evaluate whom to bring.

Obviously, after this game, this should have a significant list of whom not to bring.

Hmmm... if the CHL ruined Provorov I can't even imagine how good he'd be if he stayed in Russia to develop like all the other elite defensemen they've been producing lately.

You know... like.... uhhh....

Roster is pretty garbage - Bragin can give some clever comments to the reporters all he wants but still no PP goals in last 9 games of the tournament - hell any goal would have been nice. Spotty goaltending and poor defense. About the goaltending - very typical from Sukhachev - small acrobatic goalie who moves around in the crease too much, got burned a couple times tonight. Land shot over his shoulder was a nice shot but thats going to happen all day when a world class shooter is going against a short goalie. Yeah he makes a couple great saves but when it comes down to the final roster I dont want this guy anywhere near - way too inconsistent. Lets see Berdin already, god knows the teams going to need a rock back there this year.

Altybarmakyan Maltsev and Raaeiken showed worth tonight, but overshadowed by overwhelming disappointment from guys like Kara, Manyukan and other depth garbage that I expected terrible performances from anyways. Have heard nothing but good things about Sosunov, no way he is not better than some of the guys out there tonight.

I swear that this could be the same post, word for word, as any one of the numerous posts you made whining about this series last year. There is no need to whine after losing a game in an exhibition series that is designed to allow coaches to evaluate players. I did laugh though, just as I did last year, at the idea that there is a conspiracy to tilt the results of a meaningless exhibition series.

Not a whole lot to take from the game. Very encouraging to see Hart do well. The shutout is much more a reflection of his play than that of the defence. I wasn't impressed with all of the lapses the WHL defence showed, given that most of the front runners for the Canadian defence spots are in the WHL. Lind was indeed good, though he falls far short of Shirley. I would have liked a bit more from Steel and Glass. As usual Bean was bad.
