World Cup: Canada-Russia semifinal pre game talk

Too many of my fellow Canadians are taking this game for granted.

I hope the hockey Gods to not punish Team Canada for its fans arrogance.
 
Although Canada should be considered the favourite going into this game I'm actually getting nervous about the outcome. Team Russia has many game breakers and a hot goalie. Also this is the most relaxed I've seen Team Russia at a best-on-best tournament in a long time.

And as they say: any given Sunday...
 
Canada has much better D than Russia right now and it will take Russia some more years before their D with the young guys ( Provorov etc ) is stepping up. Russia will be very exiting to follow in the future.

Back to this game Bob has to be 110 % and everybody needs to put in the same effort as Telegin. And they need to shoot more and get people in front of the net.
Malkin needs to wake up and if Pavel is out this is even more importent
And please Znarok let the best player play a lot..no more rolling 4 lines no mather what

2-1 Russia :)

They had every player to a man buying into the system, and playing a role. I think they have that over Russia, and for me it's one of the biggest things heading into a game that is best-on-best. Will Russia play like a well-oiled machine together? When the going gets tough, they tend to differ to being individuals.

They can certainly win though, they have a hell of an amount of skill. I'm nervous.

Yes, on top of having more quality, Canadas system/tactics is superior to Russias.

If Russia just turn up and play the way they always done I give Canada somewehere between 80% and 90% ...

If Russia could learn to play the game like Canada (too late to start now, though :) ) it could be 65% Canada and 35% Russia ...

The difference in system/tactics is more important than the difference in players

We are all very excited to watch Tryamkin in Vancouver this season. He really impressed with his poise. I hope you are correct in saying he has the skills to make Team Russia some day.
 
The way Russia has hinted at coming on in this tournament. I would not be surprised if they are a handful for Canada tonight. I actually give them a 45% chance of upsetting Canada. Canada should win, but Russia is a very good team. Beware of the bear.
 
It will be a Miracle if Russia wins this. Don't be fooled people.

Looked awful for 50 minutes in the exhibition game against Canada.
Murray gave them the win against NA.
Won against unmotivated Finland in even game.

Team Russia play very awful every game this tournament, but Russia have many good forwards like Ovi,Panarin,Tarasenko,Malkin,Kucherov,Kuznetzov ..etc/

Also, how can you dare underestimating a guy who's scored multiple 100 pts seasons and 36 pts in one legendary PO run?
 
I hope Russia wins. I want that Hockey must to comeback in european hands ;).
But it s difficult!
Canada has the best defence player in the world. Their offence abilities are awesome.
This seem to be the key.

My preciction Canada win 4:1. My hope is Russia wins.
 
Respect the Russians, they are our worthy equal.

But this is ****ing war on ice. I believe our Canadian lads will come ready for battle and seek victory. This is a Golden Generation of Canadian hockey players. It's about legacy at this point.

Hockey is our game!!

Some fans make it sound as if either the Russian coach doesn't want to choose the superior tactics, or that the Russian players don't want to buy into a better system. Russia can't play the game like Canada right now because it does NOT have the players for it.

Once Russia has a more balanced roster (hopefully some good quality d-men are on the way), it will be able to expand its tactics arsenal.

The thing you should fear most in life is the wrath of a kind man. We go berserk over hockey and go into a trance. Give us battle. Canada v Russia -- best rivalry in hockey.

Russia has the uncanny ability, albeit shown mostly at the junior levels, to win games, or keep them close, despite being heavily out played and out shot.

Hockey is a game of bounces, even if Canada comes out and dominates the game, if they don't put it away early Russia will have a chance.

That is if they all develop into top d-men, this is just potential right now.

You can't count chickens before they are hatched, for all we know a guy like Provorov for example may stumble out of the gate in his first few years and be headed back to the KHL in no time where he never becomes more then a good KHL defenseman which of course will not be an elite d-man.

It is all just potential at this point.

Yes Canada are the favoured team. Yes Canada is the better team when you look at the overall depth of the two. Yes this is our home turf.

But hockey can still happen and both teams have equal chance at first puck drop.

As long as the Russian D don't spring the puck out for a counter-attack when we've over-committed to a deep cycle or forecheck, that sounds like a great idea. A lot seem to think Canada can just impose their will on the Russian D. Canada should keep a forward out high in the Russian zone and focus on moving the puck out high or to the points, and execute quick counter-attack from turnovers. Don't over-commit our activated D, though, or we'll see a Russian odd-man rush.
