With very few games left to be played before the camp, this is my roster updated to reflect the training camp invites
Lafreniere Glass Leason
Comtois Veleno/Frost Vilardi
Ratcliffe Hayton Suzuki
Formenton Dellandrea Tippett
Front/Veleno
Smith Dobson
Joseph Bouchard
McIsaac Mitchell
Brook
Scott/DiPietro/Villalta
Roll the lines pretty evenly at even strength, give the tougher matchups to the third and fourth lines as they are listed. Roll the defensive pairings pretty evenly at even strength too. Glass is having a strong year and I think that his puck protection and with Lafreniere's would be good. They need a goal scorer to complement them as at the moment I prefer Leason to Tippett. Veleno or Frost gets the second spot on an offensively oriented line depending on who plays better and clicks with the linemates better. Vilardi can play centre, but with Canada it is convenient when a centre is adept at playing the wing as well. The line also needs a goal scoring complement, and Comtois provides that in addition to being a physical force at this level. It helps slightly that Veleno and Comtois have at least a little experience playing together in junior. Hayton is a solid two way player and Ratcliffe is not bad in this regard either. Suzuki like Vilardi can play the wing and can act as the primary offensive puck carrier on the line. Ratciffe provides a player more oriented to goal scoring in addition to working as a defensive tandem with Hayton, plus his size is nice. Dellandrea and Formenton is another defensive pairing that works on this line and can be used on the PK. Tippett is there because I need another right side forward and though I am not a big fan, he can probably be used as a goal scoring threat on his own line. Even if he doesn't do that, he can provide size and speed or simply be replaced.
Smith and Dobson is a versatile pairing with two players who do pretty much everything well. Bouchard is a strong offensive defenceman, so I paired him with a strong defensive defenceman. McIsaac and Mitchell are paired under the same logic as Joseph and Bouchard. Brook is having a good year and deserves to be there, but I didn't like how he played in the super series. He would probably be fine further up the lineup, and I expect that with his junior coach in charge he will have a more prominent role.
Play whichever goaltender looks most competent in the camp and the exhibition games. I want all three there, though Hockey Canada seems to disagree.
