If you think a s**tty team doesnt have a negative effect on any good player then you need to reevaluate that position. Josephs stats would be a lot worse than Dobsons on that Titan team. Theyve been absolutely gutted since their Memorial Cup win.

It’s not really about the points, I think everyone expected them to regress on a terrible team. It’s about the body language, bad penalties, lack of interest on the ice and the mistakes he’s making. I think you can chalk that up to a kid that knew before camp even broke that at the Christmas trade period, he was being dealt and a very talented player, trying to do too much without a lot of talent around him. I’m not worried about Dobson but when he gets traded, if the same play continues then it’s something I’ll be worried about. He’s a great player, with great potential, caught in a bad situation.

He knows he’s playing for a shot with the Islanders next season and that he’s playing for a spot on the WJC team. You combine that with a guy that wants to be dealt to a better team, knows he is being dealt and recognizes the talent level around him and you get a frustrated player that can’t play the game he needs too.

Dobson has been really bad this year. People forget his D partner after was a veteran top point producer in the Q that propped him. He plays a very vanilla game.

I think Dobson will make it but definitely not as high on him as I was before.
He was by far the best Q defenseman at the super serie, I think he is a lock since he is pretty solid defensively and versatile, my guess is that he will be used on the third pairing with solid PK time....

I know TC doesn't usually take NCAA players, especially 18 year olds, but Jacob Bernard-Docker is having a fantastic season. He has 7 points in 12 games. It's a very similar pace to Cale Makar last season, when Makar was 19.
9 in 13 now (tied for the team lead). Seems to be heating up lately.

He looked pretty good at the showcase as well.

outstanding freaking news.

team is taking shape. can never have enough returning players, especially those with a few games of NHL experience under their belt. solid move by the Ducks.

There is a severe lack of Kirby Dach on these rosters. He is outproducing Glass who people have as the 1C.

He isn't outproducing Glass. PPG 2 > 1.56. Dach, and I'm a fan, has a few more goals in a few more games played. + people leaving Dach off rosters do so probably based on Hockey Canada history. 17 year old undrafted players don't generally get bigger billing on Team Canada U20 teams than 19 year old players unless you're named McDavid.

Dach could make the final cut, I doubt he will, but if he were to make it, it would not be at the expense of a highly drafted 19 year old.

My mistake, I hadn't checked the stats recently. Glass seems to be playing really well lately. Lafreniere will be on the team and he has played wing for Dach so there is some chemistry there. We'll see how it plays out.

yeah, I'd love to see a line of 17 year old wunderkinds light it up, Lafreniere-Dach Cozens, but Hockey Canada isn't that progressive. and they have stats to back it up, most 17 year old players struggle at this tournament against the 19 year olds.

These kids are special.

I'd love to see it.

Comtois is massive get. Hes likely a ~2 point a game player in the Q and also adds that physical dimension that the team will lack without him. Hes a legit physical player with a mean streak. I wonder if him being back will be good or bad for Velenos chances. One less forward spot but if they play together they might take Veleno for chemistry reasons, plus Veleno is going to be lighting it up even more playing with him in Drummondville.

I'm sure hockey Canada is pretty pumped about this

Be-autiful.

Lafreniere-Glass-Suzuki
Comtois-Hayton-Tippett/Frost
Formenton-Bowers/JAD-Leason
Foudy-Studnicka/Veleno-Dellandrea
Bellerive

Smith-Dobson
Joseph-Bouchard
McIsaac-Brook
Mitchell/Beaudin

Scott
DiPietro

So many forward options now. Our LWs are absolutely stacked with all of Lafreniere, Comtois, Formenton, and Frost very worthy of top-6 roles, and Foudy a must-have force in the bottom-6.

Defence just continues to keep getting juicier as players maintain outstanding seasons.

And our goaltending is as strong as it has ever been.

I could see JBD getting a 7th spot over Mitchell/Beaudin/Addison

Looks great but I don't want Dobson getting top 5v5 minutes. We have better options.

Man, a lot of people seem to be turning on Dobson these days.
A point per game in your draft year is really nice. When you drop to .6 PPG in your +1 year people become skeptical as to how well he can create offense at a higher level. Luckily he likely plays with Smith who will do all the heavy lifting in terms of offense, he just has to be steady defensively.

That's how I see it too. Just be a rock defensively and he will be a great asset for us, I should think he is capable of that.

Comtois is a big add, good player with experience but also a dimension that was lacking. Canada is going to have a higher percentage of available players than it has in almost any other year. It will be bad to lose with this group. Looking forward to seeing the camp invites.

I'll also say that, having watching Q games this year, I am confident in Dobson. His statline isn't great but he's still a very high end defenceman at this level.

If CHL production is your baseline then Frost is much more proven than Steenbergen was. Steenbergen put up 47 points in 62 games in his 17 year and wasn't drafted. Frost 62 in 67 and a 1st rounder. Steenbergen got drafted late as an draft overager the following year after 90 in 72, Frost had 112 in 67. This year Frost 41 in 25, last year this time Steenbergen had 54 in 23. Steenbergen had a huge start to last year, better than Frost has this year for sure, but it's different paths, where Steenbergen was mostly picked based on a white hot 3 months, while Frost has consistently been better.

A better Steenbergen comparison this year would be Trey Fix-Wolansky, passed over in 2017 after being 16 points below PPG, taken late as a draft overager in 2018 after 89 in 71, 1 less point in 1 less game than Steenbergen, and now 51 in 26 this year. Probably won't make this team. Probably shouldn't make this team.

I haven't seen a ton of Frost, didn't get to watch his SS game so can't comment on that, but he'll definitely be in camp where the more important small samples come, and I think he'll be on the team barring a really bad camp.

Not that it matters, but Frost now 1pt back from leading the OHL in scoring. The only player ahead of him is an overager. He has caught fire. Sorry haters.

Leading OHL scorers eligible for the WJC team...
Frost - 26gp - 46pts
Keating - 27gp - 39pts (someone's fave player)
N. Suzuki - 24gp - 38pts
