Defense is going to be STACKED this year. Having one of Brooks or Dobson on the bottom pairing is some serious depth.

yeah, I'm liking the way this year's team is shaping up, but I'm liking the 2020 team heading to Europe even more. If we manage to pull this one off, we'll be in better shape going for the 3-peat next year. It's been a while since that happened.

Of course we will be in better shape for a repeat next year - if we don't win, it will make winning 3 in a row next year much harder :naughty:

As of now I have it:

Alexis Lafreniere - Cody Glass - Nick Suzuki
Alex Formenton - Morgan Frost - Owen Tippett
Maxime Comtois - Joe Veleno - Brett Leason
Liam Foudy - Barrett Hayton - Jack Studnicka
Jordy Bellerive

Ty Smith - Noah Dobson
Pierre-Olivier Joseph - Evan Bouchard
Jared McIsaac - Josh Brook
Nicolas Beaudin

Ian Scott
Mike DiPietro

Why do people keep putting Bellerive on this team? If any WHL'er's making it at forward outside of Glass and Leason it's Fix-Wolansky (almost 2x'ing Bellerive in points). Heck, I can think of 2-3 other players I'd rather have than Bellerive, one of which is Bellerive's undrafted teammate Cozens who's not only outproducing but he's playing better hockey.

If we get both Thomas and Vilardi back

Lafreniere - Glass - Suzuki
Comtois - Thomas - Vilardi
Frost - Hayton - Tippett
Fermonton - Veleno - Leason
Lavoie

Smith - Brook
Joseph - Bouchard
McIsaac- Dobson
Mitchell

DiPietro
Scott

That's a really stacked team

Bellerive is stronger, he's played with HC before and played well. He outproduced Fix-Wolansky last year.

Neither of these players will play in a top 9 role for HC, they'll be suited for a checking/gritty role IMO and Bellerive fits that role better while being just as talented as Fix-Wolansky IMO.

The LWs are well-established as Formenton, Comtois, Foudy, Lafreniere. I know Fix-Wolansky is a RW, but they are fighting for 13th spot IMO and Bellerive fits it as a more versatile player.

There's still hope we may get Rasmussen on loan. less than 10 minutes TOI. I think he deserves a shot a Christmas gold and return to the Wings Jan 6.

I'd prefer Thomas from St. Louis, but I'll take Rasmussen.

I've mentioned it before but the wings announcers have said that its likely Rasmussen goes to the world juniors. Detroit has a really tough stretch of schedule coming up too, so if they start rattling off some losses that might help as well. Rasmussen has been playing well in Detroit but not in such a massive role that the wings wont release him I dont think.

I think we're getting at least one of those 2 back

Joseph-Brook
Smith-Dobson
Beaudin-Bouchard

Gives you really balanced pairings. Dobson will have to settle down as a defensive presence with Smith.

Bouchard would be PP1 option but on the ice in a best on best where every mistake count Im not sure I want him playing twenty five a night.

Are you saying you think Brook will get top 5v5 minutes on the right side?

What does Bouchard having a peanut size brain have to do with me being a Habs fan ?

Has more to do with the fact that you think Brook will play top pairing minutes than it does with Bouchard having a peanut sized brain.I would put more money on Brook not even making the team than I would on him playing top pair minutes lol. For the record, Bouchard is twice the player Brook is.

I have a feeling @bert is right on this one and if he wasnt a Habs prospect you wouldnt be saying this. If Josh Brook was a coyotes prospect and not the Habs only chances of a Canadian player in this tournament I dont think you would be saying this at all. His biggest thing going for him is Tim Hunter is coaching and coaches in the past have overplayed their dmen

Not defending the other post, but:

1) I'm pretty sure Nick Suzuki is a Canadiens prospect and is expected to make the team.
2) I'm fairly certain saying Bouchard is twice the player than Brook right now is pretty extreme. Both are amongst the top D in their respective leagues and are part of the top-4 Canadian D expected to be available for the tournament (along with Dobson and Wilde). Also, 3 of the 4 are RHD which is why Brook will likely start on the 3rd or 2nd pair, but pairs change too. Bouchard's a better prospect, but we're talking about right now.
3) Expecting one of the top WHL D to not make the team over playing on the top pair when his coach is the HC is pretty bold.

I see a lot of talk about Brook and Hunter being his coach as a reason he should be on the team....and even dictate his role. Which of course makes my skin crawl. His play has earned him an invite to camp. If his play from then on warrants making the team or playing an important role then perfect. But if they are handing him a spot or an important role on this team because of who his coach is then we have already taken one giant step in the wrong direction for this tournament.

I've stated that Dobson and Brook should get the bulk of the ice-time at ES. Swap the Smith-Dobson pairing if you will, I don't mind.

We've seen it happen a lot in these kind of tournaments, the mistake prone Ds are often used a lot less, especially ones that can't recover well because of their foot speed. Thats Bouchard. Always has been, most likely always will be.

Also, far from my idea to make this a Brook/Bouchard thing, but you're aware that Brook is so far, outplaying Bouchard ? Like, by a clear margin ? Brook is currently posting a 1.5 PPG, as a defenseman, and is probably the best defensive player on that squad, with Smith/Dobson... And you're assuming he doesn't make the team ?
