I was hoping JBD would get that 7th D spot over Phillips. I had guessed these guys would be there for sure
Smith-Dobson
Brook-Bouchard
McIsaac-Mitchell

Brook can play RD.. if a LD went down Dobson can move over.. Even if that happened, JBD filling in on the right side would be better than having Phillips in there

A bigger Taylor Hall? The same Taylor Hall who is a PPG Hart Trophy winner? And you think that's not a great player? Lefreniere probably wont make a big impact in this tournament (no 17yo does for Canada), but dont pretend hes not an incredible talent for his age and is clearly in competition for Hughes as the best 2001 born. Cozens and Dach dont even come close.

The two play nothing alike, at all either. That poster has to be trolling.

How has Bouchard looked in camp for those who have been following close?

He’s been a beast since going back to junior.

Hasn't really done much good or bad in my opinion. Hasn't stood out in a really bad way but he wasn't looking dominate at any point either.

Thanks, looks like we’ll have to wait until the pre tournament games to get a good look.

I like our D core but a little worried about our lack of experience at the WJC level.

Have to wait and see how it all comes together but i'm a little concerned. First down goes Formenton and then there is all this uncertainty and wait and see with Vilardi and Anderson-Dolan, can they play? can only one play? if one can play can he play at 100? I don't like the sounds of that. Not a very good showing against the college guys.

I don't like the early vibes, maybe I am being paranoid, we'll see.

In some of the sound bytes I heard from Hunter he seemed a little miffed that their intensity was not where it should be
the picture is going to be a whole lot clearer when they play someone other than their own country men
Swiss game on Wednesday
Can’t wait

I don't put a whole lot of stock in the results of the USports games (Canada looked horrible in those games last year) but I agree about the intensity. A lot of guys who were longshots to make the team spent those games making easy plays and skating at about 80%. The camps in the past were a lot more intense than recent ones, for whatever that's worth.

Pretty sure he tooked the Hall comparison in a thread comparing McDavid and Lafreniere D-2 season, a while ago. It was based on points only, go figure. I've been noticing him trying to put Lafreniere's stock down every chances he gets, even thought he won't admit it.

Looking forward for this tournament to start! just changed my profile picture to support the team, its the best time of the year. I remember watching this tournament dating back to 2007 and watching Canada early in the morning in cities like Leksand and Pardubice, for some reason those 07' and 08' tournaments stand out for me, obviously Ottawa 09' and that magnificent comeback against the Russians, then the terrible drought of 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 which felt like an eternity but only made 2015 feel so much sweeter, 2017 was a tough pill to lose gold in a shootout but 2018 was just perfect. Here's to hoping for another storybook ending to 2019.

I don't think you're being paranoid, there are legitimate concerns with the way the team is taking shape. a little bit of bad luck as well with the Formenton injury + others. JAD and Vilardi. never really been a big fan of JAD anyway and not counting on him doing much if he's on the roster Boxing Day. I do hope Vilardi can pull it together and play 7 games of high intensity high stakes hockey.

3 pretournament games will answer a lot of questions as to whether Hunter has got a gold medal contending team on his hands or not. not as optimistic as I was a few weeks ago.

Hockey Canada vs University All-Star teams history

They won both games last year, but they were closer, and they won one game in 2015 but they won it in a shootout. Then before that you go back to 2012 where they won one game, but it looks like that was just the University of Alberta's team that played Team Canada

Re: U Sports All Stars.
The last two years, we have seen a true All Star team picked from AUS,OUA,CanadaWest and the results show.
Practically all of the players are former NHL draft picks.
Instead of some years past, when they would pick a team from the OUA (weakest conference),or an all star team of only three CanadaWest teams, not including U of A.
This benefits TC, as they are pushed by older, skilled, high energy players, that are well coached.
For the U sport players (formerly CIS), they want to win and play well in front of pro scouts.
Many could have chosen a minor pro path, but now are rewarded with free tuition from CHL teams, if they chose to play Canadian University, ex: 4 years of CHL and 4 years of tuition money. This includes American players, who have played for CHL teams. Yes, they can get tuition money to attend Canadian University.
For TC, I believe it's not about results against U Sports, more importantly, how do your potential picks react to this high level of play.
Make one thing clear, these guys aren't a washed up bunch of former CHL players.
There was 5 players selected from UNB and three from the University of Alberta, both teams are perennial powerhouses, littered with former NHL draft picks. UNB alone has won 6, U of A 5 University cup titles in the last 11 years combined.
Also the AUS conference, which is the most competitive has won a gold medal in the last two times that it represented Canada at the World University games, in Europe.

So now what
From what I get is one more forward gets cut?
Formenton is out.
3 games and with some hobbled players they may be looking to hire back instead of laying off
Just seems like All reports are very tamed down before the onslaught of TSN and moguls pile on the Repeat full court press,

As far as I know they typically lose to our University teams. (At least I know they lost all of the games last year)

A long ways to go chemistry wise, and a lot of the guys they're playing are 22-26 years of age and former CHL level players. Albeit I didn't expect them to get destroyed 5-1.
I would put the U Sport All Stars up against any of the World junior teams, including Sweden/Rus/US and expect the same result.
The coaching staff, including Macdougal from UNB and Howell from the U of C are used to playing at a high energy pace.
So, there was no let up in the U sport team from the get go. Trying to impress scouts for possible pro opportunities, after graduation. Derek Ryan, former American CHL alumni, of the Calgary Flames, starred with the University of Alberta Golden Bears for four years, before landing in the NHL with Carolina.
There are lots of mediocre/average U sport teams (approx 36 teams, 3 leagues), but these players were picked from the stronger teams that are accustomed to making Nationals (8 team, similar to frozen 4 in NCAA).
UNB played a Russian Jr select team , back a few years ago to commemorate the "72" series and absolutely destroyed them. It wasn't close and they were basically a Russian "B" select squad that played also against Yale and a couple of other NCAA schools.
Majority of Sport players came from:
UNB-Aus
U Alberta-CanadaWest
U Saskatchewan-CanadaWest
U of Calgary-CanadaWest
StFX-Aus
SMU-Aus
McGill-OUA

I will also admit that I may be a bit concerned that Canada has only one returning player from last years gold medal team.
It was just announced this morning that an NHL team would not be loaning a player to the Canadian junior team. Not sure which player was mentioned??

Robert Thomas. This had been expected for a while, no one was counting on him going.

Yeah, pre tournament games will probably let us know what to expect.
