I don't want to go through 91 pages of posts maybe somebody could clear this up...

What happened to Cody Glass, Kailer Yamamoto, and Owen Tippet how come they aren't on team Canada?

Yamamoto is American and on the US roster. Tippett didn’t get invited because he doesn’t fit the style the team wanted to play and isn’t good enough yet. Glass was invited but got cut, he didn’t fit the role they were looking for and lacked the positional versatility to move to the wing. He’ll be back next year and an impact player.

I hope the 3/4 or so of people who didn't think Katchouk should be on this team are ready to change their minds after today. Very good game both based on the eye test and the stat sheet. The Hounds are 29-3-2 for a reason and he's a huge part of that.

His talent is undeniable unless you struggle to watch the sport.

Awful team's or not he's looked incredible and better than his peers. He was also drafted 4th overall for a reason. Don't see why certain players are 'locks' outside of Clague and Mete.

Makar was the 7th D tonight...
Looks like I was right when I said Makar would be the 6th-7th D on the team.

I was very curious about why no one seemed to be considering Katchouk early in the season. He's looked good in every stage of the selection process and I think he was the best forward for Canada in the first game today.

Canada is quite lucky that Mete was released. The defencemen were reminding me of last year. Need to make better, quicker decisions with the puck. Clague, Bean and Timmins were bad.

I thought Timmins was ok... Clague had a couple real brain cramps. Bean was Bean

What a train wreck that GDT was.

Anyways, good win as we were clearly the better team.

they usually are...I try to avoid GDTs...

anyway... a decent start yesterday...not great and definitely some wrinkles to work out on D.

Just curious...but do Hockey Canada people collectively take bathroom breaks every time Bean is on the ice? sure he wasn't the only one with issues yesterday, and others need to be better as well, but it just confounds me how certain players get themselves in Hockey Canada's golden scouting books and it never gets updated.

I want to add, in addition to the issue with three of the defencemen (plus I'm not sold on Fabbro's mobility yet) one positive I took from the first game is that Canada elevated its effort in the third period. Good teams keep the pressure up in the third when they have a lead, and I am very pleased that Canada did that.

Victor Mete looks like he'll be one of the better NHL players loaned to the junior team in recent memory. And, I'm not going to beat a dead horse as it relates to the defenceman, but my one gripe about yesterday's game was Makar only playing 7 minutes. Makar should be, at the very least, a second pairing guy on this team (playing behind Fabbro is fine, assuming he's 100%, which I'm not convinced he is...yet). But the 7th D? Come on.

I was lucky enough to be at the game yesterday, kids got me tickets for Christmas.... we've got to be better exiting our zone. Those lazy passes across the center of the ice, that keep getting intercepted need to be fixed, or we are going to be made to pay at some point.

Yeah, he has got to move up the lineup.

He's only going to elevate his play as the games get bigger. He is a gamer and a huge pain to play against. Anyone that thought Katchouk shouldn't make the team should stick to Xbox.

You are 100% correct. Zone exit troubles were the main reason that Canada lost last year and they were a problem yesterday. Canada was tremendous in that area in the exhibitions so I had hoped that the issue was mostly fixed. Makar should play more, Mete should carry the puck as much as possible and Clague should give his head a shake.

Clague's game was the most suprising he was expected to be a leader and so far he's looking like a #4-5 on this team. He has to step up and play like he did in Summer Camp and Pre-tournament. Mete and Makar need to stay in the top 4 and be regulars out there. Fabbro was slow to pucks but because of his good skills he could still make a good play with someone right on him. Timmins and Foote weren't that bad IMO, Foote has his mobility problems but he's doing what he can when he's out there. Bean is a slug.

The team overall felt really nervous and slow, but they should do better tonight vs Slovakia. I also noticed how they kept the pace up in the 3rd despite up by 2 goals. That's a fairly huge positive because in the World Juniors teams always give a hard push at the end.

Looking at that team yesterday I still wonder if they are talented enough to win gold.

They are a great skating team but I think they may end up having trouble scoring enough goals against the best teams. Something tells me we are looking at 3rd or 4th place again.

TSN just reported that Claque had his foot x-rayed for fear of a possible break from a shot block, the results were negative for a break but it looks like he won't dress tonight.

Mekar moves up.
