I don't think any 18 year old (outside of absolute studs) should ever be a surprise cut from a Canadian team as the program seems to always favor 19 year olds whether they are better or not. I would categorize it more as disappointing because on a team that lacks skill and offense up fronts as well as Centers he seemed like he would have been a much needed part of the team.

For Stanley I think big, slow defensemen are always going to be an issue in international hockey even on the smaller ice. He would gets called for things based on his size regardless if there was an actual infraction or not and skating would be a concern because of their tendency to call anything close to contact against the Canadians.
Finland won WJC with four 17 year olds who dominated.

He is a better shooter, passer and skater. He thinks the game better and is much better at creating offense.

I am going to call BS on this and just leave it be. My guess is you have watched very little of Thomas to make those statements. Button, McKenzie are all very impressed with him..... If Glass was the better player, he would be on the team. I mean Thomas will likely be centering one of the top two lines.

Sure,

Formenton - Creating all over the ice, using his speed well. Threw a really nice hit too, didn't think that was a part of his game. He has so many intangibles. He's been the best player on the ice to my eye.

Makar - I don't believe he was rewarded on the scoresheet, but he has been creating all game, especially on the PP. Very slick skating, excellent at moving the puck.

Kyrou - Scored as I'm typing this with a bomb. He has created multiple chances for him and his teammates. He's really done it all today. Very creative offensive talent.

Ill add that Bean and Foote have been solid. Two guys I'm not particularly high on.

That is really terrifying as a Canada fan and bad news for our chances in the tournament.

Good games for Formenton, Kyrou and Mete. Canad outshot Denmark 53-14 I think they said. None of the defencemen, even Bean, were bad. I will guess that Point, Ferraro, Suzuki and Comtois are out. It's difficult to predict though, and ideally Canada would be more open to cutting a returnee or two.

I'd cut Mahura, Ferraro, Kaspick, and the last forward one is tough. Not sure I want Gadjovich there, but I can't imagine they'd not cut him yesterday only to cut him today without playing him, so I'll go with Comtois, though I don't really expect that either TBH.

Going to say both Point and DiPietro make it with Point as the 3rd goalie.

Steenbergen - Steel - Kyrou
Dube - Thomas - Raddysh
Katchouk - McLeod - Suzuki
Formenton - Howden - Batherson
Gadjovich

Clague - Fabbro
Mete - Foote
Bean - Timmins
Makar

DiPietro

He's an 18 year old without impressive production.
He was very impressive in Sens camp and he has been impressive in the selection camp ... Its not all about points .. he has a really good 2 way game , plays hard, he's fast and plays with an edge
