The lines are up for debate based on who fits with who but this is about as close to my ideal lineup player wise as you can get. Phillips/Howden would be battling for the last spot on my team, Howden can contribute more on the PK and has more size so he’d likely get the nod at this point.

Cholowski/Stanley/Mahura would be battling for the last spot on my left side. Currently I give the nod to Mahura but it’s wide open, if Mete gets released then obviously he’s on the team over them.

You bring up an interesting point about hockey enrollment. Yes, it's getting even more expensive (as sports go, it was always pretty pricey), but understand that there is also growing competition from other sports as Canada is getting better at developing top athletes in other sports. It's kind of a good news/bad news situation. It's awesome to see great Canadians excelling in things like tennis and basketball (did you know that Canada just won the basketball version of the WJC?!), but that's obviously going to come at a price to our overall hockey enrollment.
Yes I did know

They beat the USA in the semis I think

We also came very close to getting a spot for Brazil.

Obviously we are doing something right in basketball. I'm sure the enrolment is not like in hockey. We are doing something wrong in hockey.

To have this many people enrolled in our hockey system and NOT dominating at every level means we can do something better

I'm thinking I'd rather have Frost in than Thomas actually. Frost has more primary points than Thomas and has great chemistry with Katchouk. Maybe something like:

Steenbergen - Steel - Kyrou
Howden - McLeod - Raddysh
Katchouk- Frost- Tippett
Dube - Glass - Lind
Suzuki

Clague - Fabbro
Bean - Makar

There’s zero chance that Robert Thomas doesn’t make this team, unless he gets hurt and is out for the tournament between now and when the roster is picked.

The chemistry point is solid but when talking about 2 guys who each have 40 something points in 20 something games, I dont think the even strength vs pp points even comes remotely close to being in the discussion for why guys should be on the team. In this tournament good special teams is probably more important than 5 on 5 it seems anymore.

Anyone have a handle on how dante fabbro is progressing?

Can't seem to find too much info about him, he's a returning guy so will be pretty important on the back end so I am wondering how his game is coming along. Last year he looked solid if not spectacular, pretty good at everything but not great at anything. I hope his game is maturing and we can get more out of him this go around.

I'm very wary of guys making the team for chemistry. Most examples of Canadians taken to tournaments due to their league chemistry don't pan out and the players and up split. This is even more true at the junior level where guys have usually played fewer than two seasons on the same line. At least in the Frost/Katchouk case they could probably each compete individually. I see Katchouk probably making it this year while Frost gets his chance next year.

Yeah, not on board with that "they have chemistry together" shit at all, it never seems to work and you end up taking a guy who on talent alone would never have been on that team and it ends up hurting you.

Take the best players, period.

Well that's the thing. You could easily argue that Frost on talent alone could be on the team. He is producing at the same rate as Thomas (a bit better if you look at primary points) he was also a 1st round pick. The chemistry with Katchouk is basically like a tie breaker. Having said that, I agree that there's no chance that he beats Thomas in Canada's mind because Thomas has been in there program etc so it would be hard to knock him out.

Apparently the camp roster won’t be unveiled until Wednesday. Seen this from a TVA reporter on twitter

Got a link? I've now seen today, tomorrow and now Wednesday?? Most have said today, including TSN and Sportsnet...maybe something has changed last minute?

Thomas is actually producing at a better rate (1.66 p/g vs 1.55 p/g) while playing on a worse team. The primary points argument doesn't mean much unless you analyze each goal that they assisted on specifically. There are many times where the secondary assist was more important to the goal than the primary assist. Thomas has also been in the mix for being the best player in the OHL this season. He's not making the team over Frost just because he's been in the program before. It's because he's actually a terrific player who deserves to make the team based on his performance.

Interesting considering TSN is doing their countdown show tonight. Just speculating that it may have to do with the Colton Point situation or medical clearance on someone.

Point is what I thought of as well. Could be Lind. Maybe something with Mete as well. It is surprising though. These things usually aren't delayed. If USA doesn't release its invites then it seems that Point is the sticking point.

Seems strange when you consider in recent years the camp has started on almost identical dates, including this year. With the rosters being announced as early as the November 27 and as late as December 1st...why go with the 6th this year? They just decided to give everyone a whole week's less notice?..Odd.

I really hope this is nothing to do with the Olympic team trying to snipe some of these juniors...I don't think it is - but maybe...

If that is it, and given what has been put out there it is at last a possibility, I will be quite displeased. If Hockey Canada is stupid enough to actually take juniors out of the WJC and put them in the Olympics then there should be mass firings from Renney down.

Bob Mckenzie just confirmed on twitter that the roster will be announced at 1pm ET on Wednesday.

Strange the date has moved.

Strange indeed. People have mentioned that they have either been waiting on injury news or the eligibility of Point. However, I think there is an alternate issue up for consideration. The IOC is about to rule on the eligibility of Russian athletes at the Olympics which may lead to a boycott from the KHL. That means that even Canadians in the KHL will prohibited from attending. Some people have been dismissive of Canada grabbing juniors, but if a large portion of the players the Olympic team was looking at become off limits, they may need to come up with some bodies fast!

This is what I was getting at earlier, I'm actually in no doubt it is about this now. The IOC vote on this is tomorrow, the date changed from today to Wednesday to announce the Junior roster, only when this IOC announcement date was properly known.

If Russia are banned or they boycott, Canada will likely lose its access to their KHL based players and at that point I think we may be in real danger of losing the likes of Steel, Kyrou and Thomas to the mens team.

Interesting to see some of the guys Bob McKenzie thinks are front runners for the team. The one that’s maybe most surprising to me is Drake Batherson, I thought prior to his injury that he was a lock for a camp invite and a chance to play his way onto the team with a strong camp. After his injury, I assumed that HC would take him off their radar and not invite him, it would be easy to do as a 4th round pick and not having any prior experience with HC, if Bob thinks he’s a front runner than I have to think he likely still gets invited.

If he comes back from his injury and doesn’t show any ill effects, there’s a real good chance he could be on this team.
