I'm not talking about Boston or Colorado.

I'm talking about the brain-worm irrationality of how fans seem to uniquely treat Leafs regular season results.
Team plays well it's treated as an expected result as it should be.
Team plays poorly and people don't like it, expect better as the should.
Nothing irrational about that.

What is irrational are the fans who expect the team to lose in the future when they are winning in the present and demand changes be made because of the inevitability of losing.
Anxiety is the real pandemic.

Tampa is sliding quickly, if the Leafs get it together, find their game in all three zones, and don't see muscled out, it can be done.

I hope they include an open bar and meals, does that include the limo ride to and from the games?
Such a thing doesn't exist.
What's crazy is the only people paying less than me sit in the row behind us.
I am comforted by the fact that I pay less than the row in front of me.

Yes we can beat Tampa. One thing we have that Tampa doesn't..... it's true friendship

Ok back to original topic

Eventually a team losses its dominance. Some.get old some lose players

For us to have any hope Matthews really needs to be the best player. Simple as that.
He can't be just a point per game player and call it a day

He has to be a threat, a menace to play against. Tampa has to feel if they make a mistake Matthews will make them pay

Very few ever won stanly cups where their best player wasn't their best player

He just needs to dig deep and come through. He really has no excuses left. He's not a teenager anymore

We can definitely beat Tampa, but the usual things need to be present in the series:

1. The core players have to up their game and bring the necessary intensity that is required in the post season.

2. Goaltending has to be solid… there’s just no getting around that!

3. The team has to find that killer instinct that’s needed if/when we have a chance to close the series out. Actually, the Leafs are going to need to bring it when we have the chance to close out a game too.

Is this team going to have all that going for them when we face off against Tampa? Well, that’s a whole other question… and one none of us will be able to know for sure.

I have my doubts, but I hope this squad can finally figure it out.

That is exactly irrational. It's what I'm talking about.

Leafs win? Doesn't matter. Leafs lose? Panic meltdown.

If that's what you got from my post you should read it again slower.
Something isn't 'irrational' because you can't comprehend it.

When have the Leafs won anything?
We are talking about regular season wins. You could follow along.

Yes. It's pretty irrational to simultaneously not care about some regular season results, but freak out about others.

You can admit to being irrational. Fans are "fanatics" after all.

Oh I see, well I’m in the group where every game matters. I also believe the presidents trophy is the true indicator of the best team. The playoffs are the best team of the playoffs and they get the Stanley Cup. Seems fans including me would rather win the playoffs. A tournament where anything can happen and anybody can win. Although I do admit there are favourites and they quite often lose because the best team doesn’t always win. Strange how careers are made and lost over that.
That's a fair and consistent position.

I don't think we have the goaltending or the D. And if the top two lines are shut down, I have no confidence in Keefe ........well with anything really.

I tend to agree with you. We may gave the players but not the savvwinning, stregisty,

We may have the players but not the savvy, strategist, playoff winner coach to lead them. He does not inspire confidence and his track record proves it. I'd love to be proven wrong, but after all his years of failures why are we expecting a different outcome?
Dubas REALLY screwed up by hiring his rookie, buddy coach instead of a proven, winner.

I agree .not sure Keefe can outcoach anyone let alone Cooper
But home ice will be a key .we do have great home ice goaltending

Honestly can we? Sure
Should we? Wellll kinda? Torontos roster has clearly improved. Tampa has clearly gotten worse

McDonagh. Rutta palat for like cole pervix and Jeannot is brutal.

Engvall kase spezza Clifford for o rielly accari Lafferty Jarnkrok is a big upgrade

Last year muzz and boost for McCabe and schenn is a wash (2 years ago muzz no contest)

Soup mrazek is no where near Sammy Murray.

Will they…….

Let’s just say I have my doubts

We can beat TB. But it’s going to be the same reasons like every year. The core players have to step and deliver, our PP has to produce. The biggest issues for me with this team is the coaching and the goaltending. I think Keefe has been exposed in the playoffs on numerous occasions.

Matthews/Nylander/Marner from the drop of the puck in game 1 have to be our best players. If not, you can bet this core will be broken up, and you’re going to see some massive changes in the summer. Only so many cracks at the fan before you realize it ain’t working

In my mind, the challenge is this.

The strategy to beat the Leafs is to do the following
  • Clog the middle
  • Collapse in the D zone
  • Rely on goaltending
  • Wait for the Leafs to make a critical mistake(s)
There's no reason Tampa would be unable to do that given they are well coached and have solid goaltending even if their talent has declined.

Thus far, neither Keefe or the players have been able to consistently counter that game plan.

You forgot, finish every check and send them Springsteen tickets.

Only if it is the same fan and I watch for that. In fact I have posted a few times in the GDT’s that thankfully we won’t have a meltdown from the fans in the post game thread, since it means nothing to them.

If the season means a lot to you, you are entitled to a meltdown, or celebration after each game.

If only the playoffs matter to you, try to enjoy preseason but in the end why do you care, wait for the post season.
