You don't need to maintain your ppg/gpg but you don't want it to differ too much. Ovie has a few good runs and some bad, somewhat 50/50 but just one or two more "spectacular" performances counting this season. He is nowhere near Crosby's even performance.

This season he is really performing when it matters and his teams is also doing better then they usually do. A leader has to lead. He has been in better teams than this without the same playoff success.

nope, he's almost always been excellent. but congrats on hitting all the commonly debunked ovie cliches -- "leadership" "playoff disappointment" "he's playing better now (because his team is winning )". how about you praise his two-way play next. something he's been doing in every playoffs for years now.

I will never understand some people's burning desire to disparage Ovi.

The man missed at least 110 games due to lockouts and still has a legitimate shot at breaking the great one's record.

He's a divisional rival and consistently torches my team, but his career has been nothing short of an absolute pleasure to watch.

Some of you need to quit being so curmudgeonly and just enjoy the show.

Yeah, Ovechkin has consistently been the most dangerous forward on the ice this series, even with the tap being shut off on the PP. Him and Kuznetsov are the players I've admired the most this series. You can't blame him for this series

I've bashed Ovie for not understanding playoff hockey in the past, but he's bringing it this year that's for sure.

That was my main criticism of Ovi- he didn't put much effort forth on defense previously. Sure yea he lit it up offensively, but it seemed like he cared little about winning 50/50 pucks
I see a different Ovi this time. Maybe no surprise he exorcised his 2nd round demons...

I'm picking TB to win tonight, partially based on WSH's poor game seven history this decade. I'd like to see Ovechkin score a goal or two tonight. I'm not sure what his stats are in seventh games, but I think he's been underwhelming in game sevens for a player of his stature. Imagine what his legacy would be if he had a Justin Williams-esque track record of performance in game sevens.

What Ovie will show up tonight? Last year's Ovie at the game 7 was brutal, causing 2 goals against. The man is 3-7 in the game 7s, that's brutal.

He has been pretty consistent game in and game out, he may not score but I would be surprised if he has an off game. IMO, he has removed the stigma of not being able to play a really solid 2-way game (not just hitting) come playoff time.

If the Ovechkin that showed up in game 6 shows up tonight the caps are taking this one handily.

That was one of his best playoff games of the last 7 years and he didn’t even score!

Ovechkin has a higher PPG in elimination games than either Crosby or Malkin.

He's been great in elimination games - a PPG or so. It's others on the team that seem to not show up.

Let's be honest. He gets way more love from the NA media/fans than Crosby or Mcdavid would ever get from the Russian media/fans.

So? You wanna compare Canadian media and fans to Russian counterparts? You really think that makes you look better?

Irony is that whattaboutism like your comment is one of the oldest Russian propaganda tricks ever. Elementary school level argument.

I am assuming you also critiqued the post Luigi was responding to, that OV's only flaw is that he is Russian.
