So happy to see Ovechkin and the Capitals doing well in this series. I honestly had the Lightning with the advantage (and not a small one) going in. While the stars themselves are playing well, Trotz seems to be getting a lot out of the team's role players which always seems to be a key in winning a Stanley Cup. Don't take your foot off the gas Washington, Tampa's still a very dangerous team.

Having a low res avatar should be a bannable offense.

And yet another new member with a strong first effort. Should consider shutting down to sign up during the post season for obvious reasons.
He/she at least made the effort to find a pic that included his/hers favorite playahs evah - bet the poster's proud of that...at least.....

Ovie doesn't deliver = "It's a team sport"

Now he does deliver = "Look Ovie is elite he delivers just like #87"

In other words, elite talent produces when it matters and wins SC. That is why every generational and half generational player have won. Not because of "luck" or good teams.
That's why McDavid got his team into the playoffs. Oh wait, it is about good teams.

edit: press send by accident before writing anything

A lot more people hated on Ovi because of Washingtons lack of success, not many people blamed his team just him. Bäckström's been a bigger disappointment in the playoffs.

This is in this thread:
Anyone who's actually watched ovi knows he's been riding Kuzy's arse all playoffs.

This is in the Caps-Bolts Series talk yesterday, when 3416 was criticizing Laine and I told him that many of the same criticisms had been put forward about Ovi as well:
He's the 4th best forward on his team. Ovis always been the best forward on his team.

You can't have it both ways. Has Ovi always been he best player on his team? Or does he ride Kuznetsov's coattails?

I get a feeling 3416 is just a troll.

No one is gonna lie and say ovechkin had a good game 1 of the CBJ series. He was bad... but overall, he is a good playoff performer and didnt deserve a call out after 1 game.. his performance since has just made this thread look even worse.

Give it time. A career is summarized once over not after three seasons. All generational players and semi-generational have won. That's a fact.

He hasn't always delivered in the playoffs. Compare ppg and gpg reg season vs playoffs.

what a dumb comment. have you tried doing this with other star players? Crosby: 1.3 ppg regular season, 1.15 in the playoffs. what a choker! (note to offended penguins fans: my statement is intentionally ridiculous)

Go Ovi! If they win the Cup and the Conn Smythe goes to Holtby or Kuznetsov, there will be some pissed off people. Me included.

I would be fine with Kuz or Holtby getting it if they deserve it more than Ovechkin.

As of right now, that simply is not the case.

Care to explain why Ray Bourque didn't win until he went to a stacked team?

Bourque had taken his teams as far as they could reaosnably go.He had his warts in the playoffs, but he had many great and deep performances too.It was hard for him to win the cup in Boston with the other teams he was eventually facing.

Ovechkin OTOH, never went beyond the 2nd round and always played on a pretty strong squad. Now he finally reached the conference finals, and Washington is in a very good spot to reach the SC Finals. He is also leading the league in playoffs points. This is very important for his legacy.

Can we not all agree that Ovie is by all means "out" (not sure he was ever "in" though he was a little quiet that one game) and end this thread?

Don't make me open a "would Ovie please go back inside" thread...

I simply don't agree with blaming one player for his playoff failures while guys like Bourque and Yzerman didn't win jack until their teams loaded up. People will immediately blame their teams, say they did the best they could with what they had. I mean, Ovechkin's teammates let him down just as much. Green, Backstrom, Semin, even Kuznetsov all had their disappearing acts. I just don't think it's right to blame any one player for not winning a cup. No one has won it alone.

If true (by the way people talk about him) McDavid should have 2 Cups by now.

The problem was never and will probably never be Ovie. He's the franchise player and a generational talent. The problem will always be his supporting cast.

The Penguins understood that the supporting cast is as big of a part as your franchise players. In 2013, the Pens were the absolute favorites to win the cup, went out and made all those all-in trades, and we got swept by Boston. We simply had a team of individuals. Know how many players are on the team now that were then? 3. Crosby, Malkin, Letang. We kept our franchise players and cleaned house of the rest, and now we're in a position to threepeat.

The Capitals, however, just keep building a team of and keeping... well... losers. How is Brooks Orpik on a contending team in 2018? He was done when his contract was up with us.

well this post has aged well

You don't need to maintain your ppg/gpg but you don't want it to differ too much. Ovie has a few good runs and some bad, somewhat 50/50 but just one or two more "spectacular" performances counting this season. He is nowhere near Crosby's even performance.

This season he is really performing when it matters and his teams is also doing better then they usually do. A leader has to lead. He has been in better teams than this without the same playoff success.
