Call for sweeping changes?

Everyones been throwing dirt on our grave all day and second guessing why Sutter started Jones over Quick, thinking that's the reason we lost yesterday.

We lost because the Oilers probably played their best game in 3 years, and the Kings played the same listless game we've seen all season, in a game they needed and should've won.

And the fact that we started Jones in one of the most critical games we have played since last seasons playoffs. I agree, unless Quick was injured which isn't what DS has said I think it was a massively stupid thing to do in not starting Quick last night. That said I have never coached a team to a Stanley cup championship let alone two in the past 3 years so I am going to just figure that he must have had his reasons.

Sutters reasons while valid, shouldn't apply with our current situation. There's three games to go and we basically need to win out, and he goes with the back up. Jones is a quality back up, but that wasn't the time to rest Quick, no matter how bad we beat the Oilers the last time. If anything, it may of fired up the Oilers even more.

On the decision to start Martin Jones:
I think all of it. I mean, look at our schedule lately and what we still have left. Tonight’s three-in-four, the next one’s four-in-[six], and we play an afternoon game on Saturday, so you know what? You’ve got to use ‘em both. Jonesy played really well in Minnesota, and he had a strong game tonight. It certainly wasn’t an easy decision. It wasn’t a decision that was made yesterday. It was one we made a few days ago.

The one thing the Oilers have is the ability to score goals. Jones didn't lose us the game, why even talk about it? Quick would have probably lost as well with the way the forwards were (not) scoring. We made the playoffs before riding a tandem of Scrivens and Jones, the forwards needed to step up and couldn't.

We scored one real goal against a defense that hasn't even hit puberty yet, and left the Oilers wide open in the slot twice and gave them a breakaway for their 3rd goal. Quick? RUFKM? Milbury's a tool.

What nuked the Kings offense was they were expecting 40+ goals 80+ points combined out of Brown/Richards, for 12 million dollars.

They got 16 goals and 26 assists out those two guys this season. That is where the Kings offense died.

No Cap team can handle two guys (both suppose to be top six tweener's) falling off a cliff offensively. Especially one's being paid 12 million combined.

Stoll too, to a lesser degree.

Agree abt Milbury. Why they continue to have him on as an analyst, amazes me. He's proven over and over thru the years, he has the judgement and sense of a 5 yr old kid. I like listening to Jones, but not that piece of horse chit Milbury.
I remember years ago, He'd been on Jagr's case all season, criticizing him and really flaming the guy bad. Jagr kept quiet about it until he decided to leave US and return home. His parting statment on live tv was: "As for Milbury, he can kiss my ass." Note that Jagr continues to play and play well to this day. So, guess Milburys judement of him was just a little off base, just like everything else he analyzes.

I'm hoping against hope that all this chest thumping, parading about, and making playoff avatars prematurely comes back to bite everyone in the ass as we make it by the skin of our teeth. People forget we're not that dead.

Think they'll go on a walk.

Kind of sad that if the Kings lose tonight, these will be the last two games the Cup-winning leadership core will play together. The price of a cap.

Kings fans, I see some interesting analysis here. I am a Calgary boy who cheers for the Kings as a secondary team. Sutter is the problem and has been the solution. He is a love hate relationship at any team. He is responsible for 3 cup, (remember the Flames actually won game 6 in 2004).

The Kings are potentially the best team in the league any night but not with Sutter at the helm any more. Who is to lead the team is anyones guess but he is the current firewall to success. His strategy is simple and has not changed in 15 years. Score 1 goal more than your opponent. The Kings are built (Kopi, Gabby, Carter, Toffoli to rip it up like Tampa Bay yet these horses are reigned in.

In my opinion having seen this in Calgary during his reign in the mid 2000's nothing will change until Lombardi makes a leadership change. Go Flames and Go Kings.

The fact that this team is not top 4 in the standings is a joke. The fans deserve better. Send him back to Viking !

Appreciate the support, Pekkas Purse.. Certainly you have experience with Sutter. It's frustrating that at times it seems the Kings is where offense goes to die. But Sutter brought the height of success to fans who watched mediocrity for so long, so it's difficult for Kings fans to even entertain the idea that he should go. Sutter is the best thing to happen to this team in a long time. Now, if we could just score more than 2 goals tonight and give up less than 3...

Thing about possibly losing Williams and a lessor extent Stoll and Richards is leadership. I know it's not seen but I think it will be hard to replace.

Not always bad to infuse new blood tho.

Guys like Doughty, Muzzin, Carter, etc. have to step up and fill the void. They have been on championship teams. They know what it takes.

Idk about the cap stuff but I'd be down with no Williams, Stoll and Richards. Greene too, he's been getting burned alllll year. Is this possible?

Doughty-Muzzin
Sekera-Mcnabb
Voynov-Regher

It was going to happen sooner or later. Kopitar, Carter, Brown, Quick, Doughty, Martinez, Muzzin, Lewis, Brown, Clifford. There is plenty of experience there. These guys aren't rookIes or too young anymore. They must assume the leadership roles. This team needs a breath of fresh air and this is the right time to do it.

RR will go. Martinez and Forbort will be their unless Amart is traded. Voynov is the lynch pin tho.

Sutter did not cause Kopitar, Brown, Stoll, Williams, Greene etc. to play like trash this season. He is the least of the Kings problems right now.

Actually he did as far as Kopi and Williams are concerned. The other 3 are roll players (Brown is the highest paid roll player in the league).

Kopi and Williams are system forwards. Put them on Dallas, Pittsburgh or Chicago and watch the numbers escalate.

The Brown-Stoll-Lewis line is awful.

Gaborik-Kopitar-Brown
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
King-???-Lewis
Clifford-???-Nolan
Andreoff, Shore

Kings could work with what they have and move Shore to 3rd line center and Andreoff into the 4th line center spot. Or they could explore other options. Andreoff can't pass thru waivers, but can Shore?

Have you actually watched any Kings games this season? Kopitar's shot totals are down by almost 100. Williams has beeb abysmal all season and should have been moved at the deadline. Kopitar has looked lifeless all season.

If Sutter's system is the problem why are Carter, Toffoli, Gaborik, Muzzin all having solid offensive seasons? Pearson too when he was healthy.

Outside of the obvious things coming up, I'm not expecting any major changes. This team is gassed, and it shows.

Stoll won't be back, neither will Williams, those two are a given simply for cap reasons.

Richards, hopefully they can work something decent out, who knows. Voynov, who knows.

Disappointed in Brown this year, but I expect he will rebound. So will Anze.

The 6 month summer is going to seem like an eternity to these guys. I'm guessing there are physical issues in the locker room like there always is, so heal up and refocus for next season.

IF Im Dean Lombardi
1st priority- get rid of mike richards, via a Clarkson for Horton esque trade, or let him rot in the minors, or retain some salary and trade him
2nd priority- trade dustin brown, time to get rid of him, guy is rapidly declining, kings need a new leadership group, give the C to Kopitar or Doughty, this will make a statement to the team to wake up and start giving a **** in the regular season
3rd priority- let Williams, Stoll walk, bring in new bottom 6 guys via free agency, or draft, left Regehr walk
4th- resign sekera

No one will want Brown. It's basically the same contract situation as Richards, even though Brown's a little better.

Brown had such a dominant performance when we won the cup in 2012. What happened to the guy? Maybe he blew out his O-ring that year.

We should make some SJ like changes.
