Only 4 forwards with under 10 minutes tonight and 2 of them could have benefited with more ice team. Oh and Wheller with the highest ice time followed by Copp I believe. But we were chasing. Well not until the 3rd period we weren't.

Followed by the quintessential Hellemuck post game quote, "No i dont think i played bad at all. I liked my game."

All sarcasme aside. I love it when he blatantly lies about how well he played following a poor game (which lets be honest is pretty rare).

But He definitely pulls it off with the utmost confidence and audacity.

I'm still very excited about this team. Schmidt and Dillon look very good (though Dillon did take himself out of position trying to make a hit that led to a goal). Morrissey and Dubois look like they're going to have big bounce back seasons.

For me, those were some of the biggest question marks.

PAUL MAURICE'S LUGGAGE
wheeler needs to get introduced to the third line where he belongs!

he should probably abdicate the captainy, which is seemingly several years overdue. guy like lowry is a prime candidate. that might grab his attention and motivate him to adapt and/or play (more) well.

he continues to be favored, coddled and protected under paurice. this does not help the team. moreover, it damages it in multiple areas.

I thought PLD and Ehlers showed some great chemistry early on. There was only one penalty each way after the first period and our game didn't unravel until the second period when we started our parade to the box. Helle let in a few more he'd like to have back, but it was nice to see him stretch across and make that incredible save to keep it 4-2. Had we gotten a few calls go our way (Ehlers getting hacked on the breakaway), maybe things look different. In both games we looked better when we had longer stretches of 5 on 5 hockey. Hopefully, after the road games end and they get back to Winnipeg the guys can get some more special teams practice in because that's where we're getting killed right now.

If Maurice isn't going to play Perfetti when we're down a goal or two and need scoring, he should just be sent down to the Moose. I'd be so frustrated if I were him being stapled to the bench in the 3rd when the team needs a goal to get back in the game.

On that hit I think that was the correct play, I think he was expecting F1 (Scheifele in this case) to cover their man tighter on the entry. That was a soft as butter play by Scheifele and that pass shouldn't have been that easy with Dillon taking away the carry in.

I thought Schmidt looked a little shaky in his decision making this game, making some overly aggressive pinches even while up 2-0.

Is the weird celebratory thread someone offered me? Because this does not feel like a celebratory thread. Though, it is weird that only after two games, some posts have written off the season.

Special teams were very bad tonight. The power play is 0 for 8 to start the season. The penalty kill also was not good, and their 6 for 10 on that, with a couple bad penalties. Special teams need to sharpen up, if we're going to have a good season.

Also - very little effort in the 2nd and 3rd periods ? This team doesn't look motivated. It may be time for a coaching change, to get this team motivated. The talent is there.

wheeler played better but he should absolutely not be on the pk

The Jets did not get scored on while he was on the PK and even generated a scoring chance.

For some on this board it is more important to critisize/hate on Wheeler than actually fairly analyze the game. Like how everyone was shitting on him for the bad PK in the GDT.

The Wheeler discourse here is making this board impossible to read, a good chunk of posters in the fanbase are just looking to come for him regardless of how he actually plays (like everyone shitting on him for being on the PK when his unit didn't concede a goal).

He had a decent game tonight, was not at fault for any of the goals yet some here want to make him wear the goat horns because is suits a narrative.

Well a number of things need to be fixed with this group:

Special teams are an unmitigated disaster right now. Our PP setup just makes zero sense to me and as a result it leaves us using Blake "muffin of a shot" Wheeler as the triggerman. Honestly who comes up with this.

Our PK looks like a bunch of chickens running with their heads chopped off. Passive and no one knows who they are supposed to pick up. Also is Maurice purposefully trying to wear our vets out by using Blake and Paul as a regular PK rotation? He needs to wake up and trust the kids that have been developed on the Moose to do some of these jobs otherwise he's going run his top players into the ground by the halfway point.

I get that we are trying to win this year but his special teams schemes and deployment have been absolutely horrendous this year and this team will dig a massive hole for itself if these things aren't fixed.

Players:

Helle's rough start continued with another poor first few goals before he locked things down. Those first two goals can't go in, changed the momentum of the entire game.

Morrissey and Schmidt: Played a solid game, didn't give up much but also didn't really generate much either. I want to see more aggression from them jumping into play.

Dillion and Pionk: Dillion was doing what he's supposed to be being hard on pucks and throwing the body. Pionk had a pretty rough night though. Not playing well with the puck and was out of position a number of times.

Stanley and DeMelo were fine at 5 on 5. Stanley was back playing a simpler game and was having more success. DeMelo wasn't too noticble which for him is a good thing.

CSW needs to stop, after a good first they got absolutely caved in. Mark Scheifele isn't making it anywhere near team Canada with the horrendous attention to detail he showed in his own end tonight. Wheeler started fine but faded through the night. Conner was probably the only player who looked decent on that line through the entire game.

Dubois played a hard and physical game, had some good looks and tilted the ice tonight. Still needs some refinement at times but I like that he is getting into a more power type hybrid speed game. Ehlers was off tonight, not as good as he usually is at handling the puck and generating chances. Copp got a nice shorty but doesn't fit on that line.

Perfetti did some more nice things and got unjustifiably benched by Moe. If we are only going to use him for under 10 a game he needs to go down even if he is smart enough to play at this level. Lowry and Paul did nothing out there imo. Paul looks slow and can't seem to get his passes through in most instances. This line doesn't really work and doesn't have enough speed.

Nice the see Harkins get a goal but none of these guys played enough.

This is a team that doesn't look like it has a lot of chemistry yet. Some of that is unfamiliarity and some of that is the coach constructing lines that just don't mesh well together.

I think at this point more people find Maurice to be the whipping boy opposed to Wheeler, or if not, they should be. Wheeler isn't the reason we're losing games. I do think he's being over relied on, but that's not on him.

According to a chunk of Jets fans:

The bad PP is Wheeler's fault

Bad 5 on 5 play is Wheeler's fault

Bad PK is Wheeler's fault

The bad culture in the Jets is Wheeler's fault

Bad leadership is Wheeler's fault

Bad coaching is Wheeler's fault because somehow Wheeler is forcing Maurice to coach a certain way and set the lines up a certain way

I don't even know if you guys hear yourself on how deranged that sounds. I am not just talking about HFJets but twitter as well

I am sure some of you will be blaming Wheeler for the bad weather when the first snowstorm hits
