What is the AHL, like the 10th best pro hockey league in the world? Roman Cervenka age 23, "the best player not playing in the NHL" put up 73 in 50 in the Czech league, a better league than the A.

I would say that the AHL is certainly diluted by the sloppy play of prospects who get force fes icetime, but regardless it is the second best small-rink league in the world, after the NHL.

Overall, it's not about Phillips' points for me.

I've contended for years that he has everything it takes to be a useful NHLer. I was the guy throwing out lines of Tkachuk - Bennett - Phillips long before Phillips was even "ppg" because I have never put much stock in minor league counting stats.

Phillips has the tools to be a dominant NHLer. Could he be bigger or faster? Sure. Doesn't change the fact that he's good at hockey

Wranglers keep it rolling with a 5-2 win over the San Diego Gulls. Finishes off a sweep of a 4 game set with SD where the Wranglers outscored them 21-5.

Zary had a nice game. Emilio with a sweet breakaway goal and assist, probably our best forward. Duehr putting together a pretty good season so far.

What was that line change? 11 just looks at Pettersen and heads to the bench, thinking "not my minus".

Someone we're not talking about enough, probably, is Jeremie Poirier.
8th in league scoring among D, 1st in rookie scoring among D. used on PP; he's having one helluva rookie campaign already. If this is what you get out of him in year 1, the sky is the limit for this kid in terms of upside. Really like to see it.

With all kinds of [Norwegian] bias, I suspect Pettersen will be my favourite Norwegian player for the coming decad. Filling the great void behind Zuccarello. This is his last contract year to my understanding (?), but if it doesn't happen in Calgary I really hope will happen somewhere else in NHL. Saw the post-game interview, and he really sounds like he has matured a lot. Team best +/- still, and good production even outside the top PP. Sorry for contaminating the Flames forum as an outsider, but been following Heat and now Wranglers due to Pettersen.

Yeah but he's a -1 so he's not good at defense.

Honestly I welcome more Norwegian Flames fans! One of my closest friends is from Norway and her family are big hockey fans as well (Heck her older brother even had aspirations to make the NHL when he was younger).

Thanks, and love your nick Bjornar!! Norway stayed perfect at U20 Div 1A today, and now both U18 and U20 teams are in the top divtion. Something's brewing.

I've been paying attention (at least on the stat sheet). ;) Guy is a stud. His major problem is his defense is/or used to be quite terrible. He's probably still 2 years away at least from the Flames, but he is progressing fantastically. He's really our only promising defensive prospect IMO.

I have seen Justin Schultz win a Stanley Cup. Two, actually.

Poirier can play in the NHL today.

He probably could tbh, but I don't see the point in calling him up when he's had like 30 games of pro-experience after being a free-wheeler in the Q.

I hope he does see some minutes next season however. Really hopeful in him as a PP QB especially.

okay there Brad
What's the rush? I mean don't get me wrong I hate the way this team handles prospects, but giving a 3rd rounder 1 year in the minors isn't unreasonable. Now if he's still being buried in 2 years you'll hear me leading the crusade about how BS the team is.

Wranglers keep rolling with a 4-1 win over the Ontario Reign. They have the 3rd best point percentage in the AHL.

Posipisil with 2G and Pettersen and Zary both with 2A. Another Poirier point as well which brings him to 19P in 25GP. Wolf with 37 saves.

It is not that there is a rush it is just that if you could make your team better by adding an offensive talent and elected not to for reasons, then you are brad treliving

4 points by Mathias Emilio pettersen today in a 9-2 win over Bakersfield. 2 goals and 2 assists.
Wranglers Win Big in Bakersfield - Calgary Wranglers

Best on his team on +/- stats.

How are his chanches to get som icetime in the NHL for Calgary Flames or might someone else snap him?

This season? pretty much none unless there's a shitload of injuries to Flames forwards. See: Phillips, Matthew

Wranglers complete their road sweep of the Condors with a 2-1 win. Emilio with the 1st and Phillips with the winner. Pretty close tight checked game, Bakersfield just doesn't have a whole lot of talent but they played well. They got their goal off a bounce off a stanchion on a dump in. Dansk was good. Zary was excellent defensively, so was Solovyov.

MEP is really starting to impress me, very solid in all aspects. Such a smart player that makes the people around him better.

Not great this season as Kahvi says above. I'd be surprised if the Flames don't make retaining him a priority though. Might be a year or two but I think there's a NHL future for this player somewhere down the line.

I hope so, I hope he becomes another Zuccarello.

Looks like Rönni injured his knee just now in WJC against USA. Took a hit and fell akwardly to the ice, it was either the hit or the fall that hurt his knee. 1st period about to end, let's see if he comes back for the 2nd
