I have been a buyer of Wolf in my dynasty fantasy leagues so I believe in him. Although I am always a little guarded against AHL success. In the 05 lockout Jason Lababerba was the AHL's best goalie, and the AHL that year was super deep with talent. This had me thinking LA had their goalie of the future.

JAD should be the target for the Flames IMO. Local kid who is hard on the puck and can play center or wing. He would be Lewis's replacement. Utility player with speed.
Off the top Calgary would never consider JAD as a centerpiece return for Wolf so we'll get that out of the way. As for JAD as a player, I'm curious what you see in him that can replace Lewis. Lewis is a quite a physical player a solid defensive game. Being a "depth piece" doesn't really fill that role, Calgary has plenty of prospects who can do that and are bigger and more phyiscal too (ie. Ruzicka, Schwindt, Duehr, Klapka, and Zohorna)

I can’t imagine he’s a sacred cow for the Kings.

What would the Flames offer for Jaret Anderson-Dolan. (fYI - that dude isn’t close to good enough to be known simply by his initials).

Phillips and a relatively high pick?

Never was thinking as one for one.
JAD is great away from the puck, is good positioning and is able to jump up offensively. Seeing Lewis when he first broke into the league I see alot of what you mentioned in JAD.

His name is long enough that I am going to keep it to JAD. haha.
Will be more of an offseason guy that I think Calgary should target. LA will have more players non-waiver eligible so could see him being had relatively cheap. From LA's POV i don't see any interest in Phillips given lack of room for current prospects already. If Mackay continues to fall out of favor maybe there is a deal there. Just someone I think Flames fans should keep an eye on.

You might be able to get Mackey for free, I think he's placed on waivers before Gilbert at this point

0.914 sv % this year is "elite"?

#17 among AHL goalies. Almost made the top half of the league I guess?
His backup has an .871 (Dansk) meaning he saves 44 more goals every 1000 shots, or about 30 games.

Last years backup had an .886 (Werner) compared to a .922 when he won goalie of the year at 20.

Let’s not forget he had statistically the best WHL career ever

clearly an average goaltending prospect lol

He also played on a stacked Everett team every year he was in the WHL which quality of the team you’re on has a massive impact on goalie stats.

It’s weird how he’s the only beneficiary every year of playing for these stacked teams.

2019-20
Dustin Wolf 46 GP, 1.88GAA, .935
Keegan Karki 14 GP, 3.19GAA, .897

2020-21
Dustin Wolf 22 GP, 1.80GAA, .940
Braden Holt 2 GP, 2.75 GAA, .862

2021-22 (first year without Wolf)
Koen MacInnis 37 GP, 2.6GAA, .909
Braden Holt 37 GP, 2.56GAA, .909

2021-22 Stockton Heat
Dustin Wolf 47GP, 2.35GAA, .924
Adam Werner 21GP, 3.04GAA, .886

Nobody else has ever even managed good stats on the team he’s played on over the last 4 years, while Wolf has won 2 WHL goaltender of the year award, a CHL goaltender of the year award, and and AHL goaltender of the year award in those years shown.

I never said he was a bad goalie. I’m saying “the best WHL career ever” won’t happen for a goalie on bad CHL teams.

Definitely some hyperbole behind stating he’s had the best WHL career ever, but he is starting to get into some unprecedented territory. He had a rough first 5 games this season when his AHL team was trying to figure themselves out, but since then he’s been operating at a .928 save percentage and a 2.11 GAA. Those are actually better numbers than he posted last year when he won goalie of the year, and he’s doing it in front of a very young defense group. If he continues his current play he could very well be in the running again come the end of the season. Has any other goalie ever even had a shot at being the best goalie in the league he plays in 4 consecutive years?
