Hamilton
Backlund

Nurse
RNH

I know that these teams are unlikely to make a deal this big with one another, but I believe that this trade would help both teams. The Flames get a young physical defenseman and add some much need offense, while the Oilers get a much needed offensive defenseman and a reliable third line center.

It's the Oilers so no.

But if Nurse continues to progress for another year or so I'd think about it.

I think you'll be in cap trouble in two years. Hypothetically, what about Gio so you could go all in for next year?

I would love to have Hamilton but no from the Oilers.

I'd rather pay next to nothing for Wideman than give up too much of the present and the future for Hamilton.

I'd like to have Gio on the team, but I wouldn't want to give up young players like Nurse and RNH for a 33 year old. I'm not sure if there's any deal that would make sense.

RNH is gone either way. We'd have no interest in Eberle and you can't pay your 3C 6 million when the ELCs end.

You're missing the x2 on the Hamilton part of the trade. :sarcasm:

This trade does give me pause though...

That's awful for Calgary.

In pure value we'd be losing but I want a middle pairing bruiser and I think Kylington/Andersson will be able to replace some of Dougie's offense.

But again, that's only if Nurse continues his progression. So offseason at earliest.

Pittsburgh just won the cup with a 7 million dollar 3rd line winger. It could be done. Depends on how the rest of the team is built around our centers of course.

As an Oiler fan, Nurse is a non-starter for me. Even if it is in a deal for Dougie Hamilton. He has progressed well this year and has too many rare qualities that we wouldn't be able to replace. I wouldn't want him beating on our team for the next decade either.

If the 2 teams were not huge rivals, I think something could be done around Nuge+ for Hamilton, but that + isn't Nurse even if we would be getting a good 3C back as well.

Ya they caught some magic in a bottle on that third line last year. Very hard to replicate that, and you are pretty much ensuring that McDavid will be playing with scrubs. Crosby likes that and you've done alright with Maroon, so maybe

Just looked and they are spending a bit over 3 million on their four top 6 wingers. That's just crazy

Wouldn't make sense for the Flames. They don't need another center, and it would create a hole on the blueline.

I wouldn't touch that from the Oilers perspective.

Only trade I'd consider with Calgary would be something around Eberle + something small for Hamilton, which CGY wont want.

Backlund does what RNH's does more or less but for much cheaper. Hamilton is much better than Nurse right now but that could become close if not equal should Nurse live up to his potential. So no.

But you can have Wideman for a 2nd

Pass from the Oilers.

I just don't think Dougie Hamilton is a player you win with, whereas I think Nurse can become a very difficult player to play against.

Backlund is alright, but I think Nugent Hopkins is a considerably better player, he's just fighting it something fierce right now. Which is incredibly frustrating, but swapping him out for Backlund isn't really the answer.

Backlund is a guy who's hit 40+ points once in his career and that might've been his career year as he's not on pace to repeat that.

If the Oilers wanted to trade RNH I think they could get Tyson Barrie for him right now no questions asked, and it's not like Backlund is so enticing that you must gift away Nurse too.

You really, really, reeeeeeally have to like Dougie Hamilton to do this trade, and I simply don't.

I might be ok with a lateral trade of Wideman for cap space basically, but that's about it.
