I still think it's really weird that it's the same scouting staff as in Atlanta. What the heck happened?

Probably different mandates, and different "top guys" helping shape those mandates (IE: Chevy, Zinger, etc).

Jets heavily out-possessed the Oilers tonight - Bryz had a pretty strong game, I thought.

Player development is just as, if not more important.

Schiefele and Trouba were allowed to develop to the point where they wouldn't get beaten down when they made the jump to the NHL and would actually be able to have some success in the NHL while they continue to develop.

Direction - The main attributes your looking for. True North has also added a lot of funding towards scouting.

This is the thing I've liked about Chevy. He's taken an Atlanta scouting staff and seemingly turned it into something productive. Now he really needs to do that with the on-ice product.

Maybe this GM is listening to his scouts? Waddell, apparently, thought he knew better and didn't always pay attention to his scouting crew.

That sounds pretty scary considering how poorly they drafted after the 1st round every year in Atl.

The REAL test will be to see if this team can break the .500 barrier that's plagued them. I'm Cautiously optimistic :)

The 2 are closely related. In my mind it is crystal clear this team will be built around our young players.

lol @ oiler fans having kittens over troubas game winner. do they really think hes so strong as to knock an oiler 1 handed off his skates and barrelling into bryz? the idiot oilers d man was doing that all himself and trouba shook him off with a 1 arm forearm shiver.

loser team. jets win!

They're not in the wrong to complain, the goal could have easily been called off. I'm more surprised about the people complaining about the Eberle-Trouba 1 on 1 saying there should have been a penalty. It was a shoulder to shoulder check and played perfectly!

Hahaha! Maurice being asked about the rookies (paraphrasing, but it was really funny):

"They're just part of the team. (...) They're really good players. It's not like we have a kiddy section in the locker room where we feed them..."

Wow does that actually suggest we now have a coach who can make adjustments in game that actually work?

I only caught the 3rd period, but it looked like a playoff game. We hustled and every single player wanted the puck more than the Edmonton players. Clear effort to separate guys off pucks and great movement. They were clearly giving a lot more effort than I've seen in awhile. Even moreso than the last two games when we won 5-1 and 5-2.

Yep, agree: could argue the OT goal way more than the Eberle thing - Trouba did not hold Eberle, just "pushed" him wide strongly to take him out of the play.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but then again: it was the Oilers.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what 2.1 can do on this really, REALLY difficult upcoming California trip. That'll be telling.
