C/W Marat Khusnutdinov (2020, 37th, MIN)

Nice, probably a good move for him. Hopefully he joins Michkovs efforts to show SKA how much talent they lost.

I doubt Sochi will break Tyanulin - Garayev - Michkov line. Don't fix it, if it ain't broke.

I think Bracco will play on the 1st line instead of Rendulic and Marat is going to play on the 3rd line with Popov and Rasskazov instead of Shiksatdarov, because 1 point in 13 games doesn't look great for a 3rd liner.

Yeah, all i wanted to say is: hope the kid does well and has a great season. He looked very good last year.

He had 40 points in the KHL last year as a 20yo. Expiring contract so naturally he went from being SKAs 1C at times to the being in the press box.

It begs the question; if SKA’s intent is to punish him for not resigning, why send him to a club where he’ll get ice time? Why not just bury him or demote him to the VHL?
It appears he’s in the same boat as Ivanov, Michkov, Buchelnikov, Kirsanov; prospects SKA wants playing even if it’s not on the parent team.

Rotenberg proclaims himself as a lord protector of the future of Russian hockey. Sending the kid down as a punishment wouldn't have correlated with his big words. And then people wouldn't have understood him either, and public opinion matters in Russia.

roten is either strongly disliked or laughed at. if the public opinion mattered he would have fired himself long time ago

Disliked by who, a bunch of hardcore hockey fans? Yeah, big force... Casual fans don't care about Rotenberg, most experts support him, the same about FHR and KHL. Still if he starts to suppress young players just because they want to go to NHL, situation can change.

Nah, everyone and their dog knows who is roten and why he coachers the team. you don't know what you are talking about here. As for experts, khl and fhr, it's pretty obvious why everyone supports him. It has nothing to do with him being likeable and everything with him having the name Rotenberg.

KHL and FHR's support for Roten would diminish if he starts messing around with young talent.
You think he could get away with not playing Michkov all year? Right.
The Khusnutdinov trade is a continuation of this.

Everyone supports him now, but that support isn't indefinite. Remember how easily Rotenberg was marginalized during the 2022 Olympics?

So, in other words, Marat is being punished(arguably, i can see the viewpoint that it's better for SKA to have Rendulic going forward) for not re-signing, but there is a line that you don't cross, or you'll piss off the powers that be in Russian Hockey?

Makes sense that they don't want to piss off young, talented players just because they want to play in the NHL, especially if they want them to play for the National teams.

Not entirely. Rotenberg is the U-25 coach and Vice-Pres of FHR. So he has a duty to the NT, develop players, etc.. He's also fashioned SKA as a development haven for prospects.

The situation would be a little bit different if Khusnutdinov wasn't getting ice time on, say, Avangard or wherever.

Do you think that Khusnut simply wasn't good enough to warrant regular playing time this year on SKA, or more to the point, that Rotenberg thinks he isn't good enough to warrant playing time, and that his contract status has nothing to do with it?

I mean, I get completely get the POV of "why develop this kid if he is going to leave SKA and go to the NHL year", but them moving Michkov also makes me wonder if Rotenberg simply likes older players.

SKA = absolute dumpster fire.

For now, it looks like they’ve put him in Rendulic’s spot... I could see this changing, but it’s good to see Khusnutdinov on the first line. It’s a tough outing for Sochi, though, as they’re missing Michkov due to illness in addition to Rendulic...

Sochi will be signing Jeremy Bracco soon as Rendulic's replacement, so with him and Michkov added to the lineup I think Khus will be moved back to center.
