C/W Marat Khusnutdinov (2020, 37th, MIN)

I couldn't find a thread on Marat. Probably got purged. But this guy is flying under the radar. He has been having one of the best seasons for a 20 year old in KHL history. Just broke the record for assists for a player 20 years and younger. Previously held by Kaprizov and Kuz.

Not a better season than Nikishin though who, in my opinion is by far the best prospect in hockey at the moment.

Is the player the real deal or just getting a little point lucky? I drafted him in my keeper pool and I still have him for 5 more years after this year. He was a late pick in my keeper and last season looked ok but nothing great. This season point wise is looking solid for a 20 year old.

Not a bad pick to hang on to, he should be in a good position to join the Wild once his KHL contract is up, they will have a definite need for ELC centers and he would be in line to play with skilled players. Has NHL level speed, and plays the defensive side of the puck well enough to be a contributor right out of the gate as a 3C or higher.

In 4 or 5 years maybe his max points in NHL is approx 60? I don’t see him as talented as a Kuznetzov? I’d be right to say that?

Not point lucky. He played his way into the top line center role for SKA which is unheard of for a 20yo. He’s a very smart player who almost always makes the right play with the puck. He has plus level speed and compete. I wonder if his skill is plus level or just average though. He’s the best forward prospect in the Wild’s system, imo.

Oooo…. Taking a stance! Better than Rossi, and Yurov?

I will say that speed is a trait that doesn’t slump.

Yeah I think so at this point. I’m not as down on Rossi as some people are (I’m also not as high as when we drafted him), but I think it’s fair to say they more projections are relatively similar in terms of the spot they’ll play in the lineup. I’ll take the better skater between the two. Yurov probably is more technically skilled, but he’s a bit of a wild card until he starts actually playing hockey.

I was more doubtful about Rossi than most, and his early play in the NHL speaks for itself, but I sure am liking his play in the AHL as the season goes on. He is getter better incrementally, especially his skating. He needs to be one of those guys who needs to have near perfect technique gets every bit of speed out of his body, as he is not a natural speedster.

I have hopes that Marat can come in as and fill a top 9 C spot in 24-25, with Rossi and JEE taking the other two spots. Nightmare would be if Rossi and Marat can only play on the wing

To be fair, Khusnutdinov is on the top line because Prokhorkin is injured. He'd likely be getting 3rd line minutes otherwise.
But he's taken the opportunity by storm regardless. Really solid 2 way player. He might end up being the player everybody expected Podkolzin to be.

Wasn’t Podkolzin supposed to be more of a power forward? Almost forgot about him… scouts were crazy about him in the draft.

I thinking more of his versatility. Like Podkozlin's projection, Khusnutdinov maybe not 1st line NHL offensive potential (2nd line more likely), but has a non-stop motor and can play in any sitaution. He's a type of player who will be mega-valuable come playoff time. SKA coach compared him to Landeskog. Not that he'll reach those heights, but I can see the stylistic resemblance.

Wow, I can’t think of a less similar player. Landeskog is a very physical, in your face, large LW with average skating, and very good skill. Marat is a smaller, fast Center… I have not heard that he has anywhere the same amount of physicality and pugnacity. I would think that Marat has less skill than Landeskog, who was a 2nd overall draft pick, rather than a 2 nd round pick.

You can't judge a player by where he was drafted....Kucherov was a 2nd round pick and far better than everyone else in his draft year.

First some mixed Prokhorkin (Khusnutdinov teammate with SKA) with Podkolzin (Vancouver Canucks player), then Khusnutdinov was compared to Landeskog, while Podkolzin would be a comparable, certainly not Khusnutdinov.

This thread became confusing very fast.

Again, the main point is that Landeskog, as a player that was drafted 2 oa, and has lived up to that ranking, is a completely different player than Marat. Far bigger, tougher. Less fast than Marat. Went into the NHLimmediately after the draft, and scored 52 points, in a lower scoring era. Marat,in his 1st year post draft scored 2 pts in 12 gp in the KHL. He is now, in his 3 rd year post draft, scoring at the same pace as Landeskog did when he was 18 in the NHL.

As a Wild fan, I hope Marat turns out to be a good player, but comparing to Landeskog makes no sense, except maybe for his commitment to playing hard.

It looks like he was injured in one of the game vs Belarus and gonna have a surgery soon. Reports say he should be ok at the start of the next season so the situation is probably not that bad.

Any idea why?

I know they added Galchenyuk but seems like a steep drop from 18+ minutes per game in last years playoffs.
