I'd say Kotka has the same issues in terms of agility and foot speed.

Their releases are also very similar. A lot of power, but takes too long to get off.

I think Kotka is quicker then Galchenyuk was at 18. It's not a real strength for him but it's less of a concern imo then it was for Galchenyuk at the same age.

In your head
Kotka's game is all about his smarts and his playmaking ability/vision. Galchenyuk's game is all about trying to deke an entire team on his own, turning the puck over and having to skate all the way back to our d-zone with his linemates.

They have very little in common.

That's Drouin, not Galchy, stop spreading false things about ex-habs you hate.

If he had higher tier team mates I'm sure he would be around 14/15/16 points right now, but at 10 points on third line is ridiculous! And just looking back how many chances he created for Armia which he failed to score the unbelievable passes he created!

out of how many rookies

galchenyuk came out of draft with issues with his knee - and i think they still remain. i think what separates both players at same age is Kotkaniemi's hockey IQ. It is and remains higher than #27. both shots remain equal (galchenyuk always had elite shot) but 15 is a much better passer too

First time watching him
The talent is definitely oozing
But if Julien can't trust him over 15 a night, should have just sent him down or back to Europe

Lol I think that 15 minutes is pretty darn okay for a kid in his first 20 pro games on NA ice.. He belongs and its undeniable at this point.

And this is coming from a Sens fan whos totally thrilled that Mtl took him and left Tkachuk for us (we both got exactly what we needed and wanted - im not here to fight).

I could live with the ice time if he wasent playing with non-offensive minded players. I don’t mind him with lekhonen but agostino? Jesus Christ

That's down to injuries though. Can't imagine Byron isn't in that spot when he comes back.

Playing on the 3rd line with two defensively responsible players like Byron and Lehkonen is pretty ideal from a development standpoint.

All I will say about Dahlin is Bouwmeester and Johnson. 2 of the last 3 defencemen drafted 1st OA that had similar accolades thrust upon them. (I know Bouwmeester was 3rd, but that was draft day dealing so Columbus could get Nash. Florida was happy to snag him at 1 and would not have traded down if they weren’t still guaranteed to get him) Both fell well short of expectations. In a redraft neither is going 1st.

It’s great that he has the skill and talent. Just hold off on the coronation until he’s done something in the league. (Same with Kotkaniemi) Chances are that someone drafted after him will turn out better.
