I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he stays in Russia for a few seasons. Seemed a bit too optimistic that he was getting out of his KHL contract, meanwhile back in Russia this was all news to Velichkin, the GM. Seems like Kamenev knew he would be bound to MMK, but just said he would "try" his best to get out of contract. Seems like a great ploy by the agent to get him drafted.

What do you think he does after his KHL contract is done? Does he come to the NHL or stay in Russia looking for a huge payday?

I can't believe Quebec would have drafted him without knowing if he could get out of his contract or not. They had the 2nd overall and that pick was very important to them. They had lots of options with that pick. They wouldn't have taken a player who they weren't sure with. As far as we know in Quebec, he will report. Of course, his KHL agent will say otherwise. If he comes over, he loses him! Like I said, Grigorenko's agent was saying the exact same thing.

If they did drafted him and he's binded by his contract next season, they have the worst management ever. I'm not saying it isn't a possibility, just having a hard time believing he won't report at all.

Don't want to hijack the thread but this made me remember a question I always wanted answered.
I don't follow minor league drafts or whatever but I looked at this one and it seems like several teams just forfeited their pick in the first round. What is the purpose of that?

I'm no expert on the CHL, but CHL teams are only allowed to have two import players on their active roster. I'm assuming the reason those teams passed is because they already have two import players that they are expecting to be on their active roster next season.

Teams that passed in the 1st round and imports on current roster:
Prince George - Martin Bobos & David Soltes
Chicoutimi - Janne Puhakka & Nikita Liamkin
Plymouth - Yannick Rathgeb & Victor Crus Rydberg
Moncton - Ivan Barbashev & Vladimir Tkachev
Cape Breton - Maxim Lazarev & Evgeny Svechnikov
Drummondville - Sergei Boikov & Georgs Golovkovs
Halifax - Nikolaj Ehlers & Timo Meier
Guelph - Pius Suter & Phil Baltisberger
Portland - Oliver Bjorkstrand & Anton Cederholm

Didn't Don Cherry as the Ice Dogs' GM refuse to draft players outside of Canadians.

Just watched his tying goal from his game today(?). Was impressed with him at the WJC and not gonna lie this guy is one of my favorites from the 14 draft, no idea why, Just like the way he plays the game.

So I guess im just wondering if anyone can comment on his play post WJC? Whats his ice time like?

no expert and haven't seen him play but hes an 18 year old playing in a pro league and the legendary IRON MIKE KEANNAN is the coach of Metallurg. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if he gets under 10 mins a game. would also explain his relatively low stat production

As Stizz09 said, just under 10 min
9:40 season average, 9:12 in the playoffs

Its kind of a waste if you ask me, he should be down in the MHL playing 25 minutes a night, sitting on the bench for Mike Keenan, jeez, whose idea was that?

Signed ELC with Nashville, expected to play Top6 center role in AHL next season.

Caser, do you think he has the offensive chops to play that role next season? I saw him twice last year outside of the WJC, and it's hard to gauge his skillset because of how little he played. But it seems like those expectations might be a bit unfair--but I'd love to hear your take.

At this moment I think Kamenev's offensive upside level is somewhat similar to Namestnikov's level (Namestnikov is a better passer though, while Kamenev is much more gifted physically), so I think Kamenev should be able to succeed at AHL level, although I really don't expect wonders from him next season, he will need some time for adoptation. Also he will just turn 19 at the start of the season, that's a year younger than prospects coming to AHL from CHL, so he basically has a year of development in reserve (which, obviously, will make benefits only in combination with a certain degree of trust from organization). Time will tell, of course, but right now I'm looking at things rather positively.

Getting very little press, but is definitely one of the best players in the tournament so far.

I think Kamenev's physical gifts is precisely what will make him the better offensive player in the NHL.

EDIT: just realized your post is from July.

I'm impressed by this guy. Does a lot of things right all over the ice and still has a good offensive game to boot.

Sad end for a good tournament.

Kamenev gets a game misconduct and is ejected after the Fins took the lead in the last few minutes. Smashed his stick on his way into the penalty box. Tough call as the captain. Shouldn't take away from the good tournament he's had though.

It should. Hitting a volunteering official (whos job was to count shots and manage the door) with a broken stick to the hand and causing a wound should not be just forgotten because of his goals.

Felt proud of his play in the tournament before that, but the nice goals really does not matter if he acts like a 6-year old child when the right response for the setback would be to channel the frustration into a leverage instead of rage. Especially when the penalty he was angry about was as clear as a day. So unnecessary...

FWIW, Kamenev didn't hit the official's hand. He hit the board in the official's hand that caused the wound.
