I understand what you are saying, and have felt similarly in the past. However a celly doesn’t necessarily reflect a bad or arrogant character. It’s just an out of mind joy that can’t be contained

:dm:

Having very outwardly(and inwardly no doubt) humble Swedes play for us over the years, I’ll take a little bit of kayaking down the ice :naughty:

“We were outplaying them and outworking them and we knew it would fall soon,” Madden said. “This one was definitely unbelievable. I’ve been coming to the Garden for a while – the bright lights are out there and I shine in those.”

It was this comment that irked me as well, just zero PR polish.

Trust me, if that’s the case with him, the NHL will offer him several slices of humble pie.

I’m more interested though is how he gets on with his teammates, and how hard he battles for them.

It does. However, regardless of how the new age fan feels about it, brass probably don't like it.
I am honestly not seeing any issue with it - we have been watching players celebrate for decades sliding across the ice, if the other team has an issue with it, they can deal with it next time they play..

how dare Madden do this, classless bum.

What do you think scouts and team personnel do at the combine interviews, small things are what separate a lot of these kids.
Lol youre clueless on this one. They like confident players. He is 19 years old get a clue.

The celebrations aren't a good thing, he has a cockiness about him that will crash once he turns pro.
Celebrations are for after the goal so whats important is what happens when the game is being played not what a player does after play is stopped and the red light is flashing.

I'm not and many hockey executives probably side with me. Any of the old guard for sure.

Jim Benning took this guy. The guy who probably had Merkley and Wilde on his no-draft list because of character issues. He stresses character, and as long as the kid has a good work ethic and is listening to coaches, I don't think it's a problem.

A HOF GM can’t be wrong. Ever.

Thank you for gracing us all with your infinite wisdom and insider knowledge of the actual GM thought process.
No wisdom required, what Madden did was immature and childish. Vancouver fans can choose to believe what they want though.

It just seems like a weird hill to die on, getting so weirdly upset about a kid celebrating a goal and thinking that it's going to have any kind of impact on his pro career.

Here are 10 examples of why that's nonsensical. From 2013, mind you, so there are probably a dozen more recent examples.

Jim Craig : Wait a second, I've given you all I've got, and now you're pulling the plug on me?
Herb Brooks : Have you? Given me your very best? Because I know there's a lot more in you, a whole other level, that for some reason you just don't want to go to! Aww, what the hell, you don't understand what the hell I'm talking about.
Jim Craig : No... you know what I understand, Herb? I don't understand you, nobody on this team understands you. You, with your ridiculous sayings, and your drills, and those stupid psychology tests that you had everybody take...
[cut off by Herb]
Herb Brooks : Everybody?
[starts jogging up the stairs while Jimmy yells after him]
Jim Craig : What, so this is what this is all about? Because I didn't take your test? Fine, you want me to take your test, I'll take your test. Is that what you want?
Herb Brooks : No. I wanna see the kid in the net who wouldn't take the test.
[walks up the remaining stairs, and out the door, with Jimmy staring after him]

that is what GMs/Coaches want to see...

Move on nothing to see here about a kid celebrating a huge OT Goal.

Kid deserves to celebrate over the year he’s had and proving that opportunity comes with hard work and determination.

The next best small/skilled player that’s going to be entering the league in the next 3 years.
