Never been a fan of giving "comparables". Very rarely will you find two players that are extremely identical in their style of play. Just watch the player yourself instead of relying on an NHL "comparable" to think how a prospect might turn out.

I personally don't think there is a player in the NHL that encompasses everything that Zegras is.

I agree with this, except I think Zegras could be the better pssser/playmaker, if he hits he ceiling. He has and unreal ability to get the puck to guys in scoring position with passes most guys don’t dream of, and he makes it look fairly routine. Obviously, Kane is phenomenal in this regard too, but it’s the one area that I think zegras could exceed Kane.

Youre talking about a guy who has a couple 60+ assist seasons and has finished top 3 in the league in assists before. Youre talking about a potential 70 assist guy if hes a better passer. Even a guy like Joe Thornton only has a few seasons with numbers like that. Kane in his prime has consistently been top 5-10 in assists in the league.

I really doubt Zegras becomes a better playmaker than Kane. In the NCAA he doesnt even stand out from some of his teammates points wise in assists. If youre going to be that good in the NHL, youll usually have the numbers outside of the WJC to back it up

I thought it was a no brainer for the Oil to pick Zegras, or a smart, two way winger like Boldy. Picking Broberg, considering their crying need for quality forward help, seemed bizarre, especially considering that they picked a Dman in the 1st the year before.

Right now Zegras looks to have elite skills. Not sure that EDM needs another player that needs to dominate the puck, but it's a hell of nice dilemma to have.

Klefbom recently had a press conference regarding his shoulder. He's looking at potential replacement-surgery, and there's a decent chance that he won't be able to play in the NHL again. That likely explains the drop-off in his play since 2016-17. I'd imagine that Holland had that in mind when he took Broberg.

Eh to me the oilers have 2 of the 3 best players in the world up front... and they really didnt need any more high end talent up front... they have Yamo, Pulj, RNH and few other players you can plug into the top 6.

I think broberg was a no brainer for them.... people will say oh oilers missed out... but honestly zegras wouldnt potentially improve the oilers as much as broberg can.

How has he looked in camp so far? Is he going to make me stupid like the two Canucks before?
Where does Zegras play if he’s not on the Ducks? Surely don’t want him to suffer through a horrible year like Jack Hughes just did as a rookie.

He’s allowed to play in the AHL? Point might be moot anyway. The kid is a really good player, who might do just fine in the National League right away. It’s good though that option is there if he is struggling.

He signed out of college, since he can't go back (and had no deal with a junior team) I believe he would be allowed to play in San Diego in a normal year. This year, due to Covid, I think some junior players (like Drysdale) might be able to play in the AHL. Someone that knows this better can probably correct me if I'm wrong.

The clip of Getzlaf teaching Zegras in the middle of his interview brought a tear to my eye, what a guy to learn from.

Dan Girardi is the player I see in Trevor.
O ya. Zegras have an aim on his eye for sure. No other explanation to those passes

I find it strange how much time is wasted in threads like this one comparing a prospect to current or former players.

Not so much the posters saying "prospect X" (Zegras) reminds them of "prospect Y" (Kane, Barzal, Datsyuk, etc.), but more so other posters telling the initial posters that they are wrong. Who gives a crap. If someone thinks Zegras reminds them of Barzal, who are you to say they are wrong? Seriously. It is all very subjective and in the end no player comparison is perfect anyway. Zegras is Zegras. Whether one person thinks Zegras reminds them of Datsyuk and another poster thinks he is similar to Kane, what difference does it make? It's all just a matter of opinion.

Same thing is going on in the Seider thread (and most other prospect threads) with a bunch of posters comparing him to Pronger and a bunch of others saying that comparison is wrong. Player comparisons are merely an ineffective way to grade or evaluate a prospect and even if the comparison isn't perfect, it is only done to suggest vague similarities or attributes that are shared by the players. By suggesting that Zegras reminds one of Kane doesn't automatically mean Zegras is going to be one of the greatest American-born players to ever play the game. It just means the two players have some similar characteristics.

Think one of the hardest things for him to do as a young player is going to be to learn a little more selfish, especially as a guy new to the show whenever he breaks in.

He’s got a great shot, and the coaching staff at BU had to basically beg him to use it more.
