Yep, 2 weeks. Jeff Marek just talked about it on the 2nd period intermission on HNIC, he believes it will be announced tomorrow. 5 games for Seattle's AHL affiliate during that 2 week timeframe.

I genuinely can’t wait to see Shane Wright compete in his first full World Juniors in Halifax. We didn’t see him as much as an impactful player in his brief stint with the December 2021 Canada Squad. I want to see if he’s a dominating stand out or if he’s more on the same level as his peers. These next couple months are going to be interesting.

About time. I can't wait to see him on the fourth line in the AHL and see what he can do.

Very exciting news.
Wow. What a shockingly dumb take.

What is with you Habs fans? You think you got the better player in Slafkovsly, fine, but do you really think Wright is a fourth-line scrub? Give your head a shake.

It was a sarcastic joke of him...

You should go to Chandler Bing academy of comedy 😁
And it might even be true. There are lots of prospects in the AHL playing with garbage linemates because the coach is trying to win and doesn't give a damn about developing players.

This prompted me to check out Coachella Valley's roster/stats. Their top-two scorers are both 28 years old, No. 3 is 24 and No. 4 is 30 years old.

Normally this would be a red flag, but there are only five players on the roster born in 2000 or later. The first-year AHL franchise is drawing from a thin Seattle farm system.

Obviously, Wright has to earn sustained top-line minutes and any special teams play, but if Seattle wants to use this stint properly, he'll get ample ice time and not fourth-line minutes like was getting in the odd NHL game.

Dan Bylsma is the coach there and you'd think a former NHL bench boss with a Stanley Cup ring would be itching to get back to The Show and put winning ahead of everything else.

This article in The Athletic suggests otherwise, but words are cheap. We'll see what happens. (screencap provided for those without a subscription.)

Assuming he is sent to the AHL (no announcement yet), this will be interesting to follow.

Unsure why it’s a dumb take? AHL is still a professional league and not really a developmental league. We went through this with Mesar, who was able to play AHL or OHL. He went through the AHL camp playing on the fourth line and now he’s in the OHL and we’re all happier because we think it’s better for his development. I’m pretty sure the post was written in that context and not about Wright’s abilities.

The way his development has been handled is weird and questionable to say the least. I blame the player and agent more than the team. I imagine that some ego and money is involved here.

You get a player whos not NHL ready and you start burning off ELC it’s not good for the player or the team. Kind of reminds me of the Puljujarvi situation when he came in. The way that was handled was a mess similar to Wright now. Hopefully Wright figures it out in years 2 and 3.

This is what happens when you have two of the biggest dopes in all of hockey, Francis and Hakstol, at the helm.
Not fans of Seattle, Hakstol or Francis. But I imagine this is more on Wright and his camp. He probably thinks he deserves to be in the NHL and he wants an NHL paycheque. It’s not good for his development.

I don't remember a case quite like Wright's before where there is insistence that he is something that he really doesn't seem to be. Wright is the sure number 1 pick... until the whispers that he isn't build up as he doesn't look that impressive and he goes fourth. Wright is too good for the OHL... even though he did not dominate the league. Wright needs to skip the WJC because he is going to the NHL... even though he stunk in his WJC action in the winter camp and tournament and he does not seem to be an NHL calibre player. Wright makes the NHL and Francis says he will be there all year... but again, nothing indicates that he is an NHL calibre player.

I've got nothing against the guy but he seems to fall, or at least stumble, upward to a weird degree. He should be given a normal development path - play in junior, see how he does, and then see if he deserves an NHL look next September. I don't see why they would assume that he is an NHL calibre player even next year.

And, he can be in the AHL next year under the loophole Spezza fell under. And, to be honest, I think this AHL development stuff is really overstated. I can't think of one example of the 2020 guys who got the exemption to play it in their D+1 where it dramatically sped up their development. And, the list of Euro's who used the loan loophole haven't exactly taken the league by storm Sandin, A. Nylander, J. Honka, etc.

I agree with you but also I'll point out that 99% of people have figured out that Wright isn't too good for junior. It didn't start out that way but that's the prevailing view now. The conversation is being perpetuated by the extremes.

It's ridiculous the Kraken are even allowed to do this conditioning stint in the AHL. If he got hurt and was out a while then I would be ok with it... But they are just taking advantage of a loop hole here

Well the loop hole includes agreement by the player, so they clearly asked him too if he was comfortable going down

Well I don't blame him at all.. ofcourse he would wanna go down and play. Plus it would be pretty easy for Seattle to just make him go... It's not like he would refuse to go to AHL.

It's just odd the Kraken have this option to send him there. It's been talked about alot and pretty much preplanned this was the plan with Wright... Rarely play him, wait till he's eligible to to a conditioning stint and then to the WJC

Who is it hurting?
It's not hurting anyone... This is way better for Wright now. I just mean there are specific rules for players like him... NHL or junior. Him going to the AHL right now is perfect but I just hate that in order for Kraken to send him there, they had to not let him play at all in the NHL!... I think just this whole situation with him staying in the NHL and not play is just so bizzare

They must really not want him in Kingston. I'm sure Shane and his agent have supported that decision.

Yeah...pretty much this. There is a lot of spitballing in this thread about Seattle screwing up his development. While it has been an unconventional development process, I am willing to bet that Wright's camp has been heavily involved in the route it takes.

The Kingston angle is interesting though. Paul McFarland has pretty deep ties to that organization and his brother is currently an assistant there. I don't know what to make out of all that, but there are most likely lots of discussions about what to do with Wright, both formally and informally.
