Sounds like he is on the first line! Congrats.. take that ball and run with it
Every Calgary fan including myself is operating under the assumption that he gets a 9 game trial then gets sent down to the AHL, but all Honzek has done so far is literally force his way in to the lineup and now with a Sharangovich injury a 1st line spot. He’s big, fast and surprisingly strong; if he just fit like a glove with Kadri and Kuz and stuck for the year I wouldn’t even be surprised at this point.

I want him to stick.. would be great for Slovak hockey if nothing else! But he does seem to have taken a step!

The 9 game trial thing only applies to junior players. Their contract slides if they play 9 games or less and gets sent back to junior. Honzek’s (or anyone else) contract doesn’t slide if he plays in the A

This is not true at all. See Brad Lambert for example. 1 season in chl, 1 season in ahl. Still has 3 years left on his ELC

I know there’s a weird rule about players playing in the AHL and their contract slides due to a late birthday. I’m dating myself here, but I remember the same thing happening with Emile Poirier I believe. I don’t think that rule applies to Honzek though

Edit: I looked up the rule and I apologize to OP. It will slide for Honzek in the A because he was born after September 15 AND he signed his ELC the same year he was drafted. Just like Lambert.

Yes it does.

The rule is:
if a player signs their ELC at 18, their contract can slide for 2 years. (Honzek signed at 18)
if a player signs their ELC at 19, their contract can slide for 1 year, unless they turn 20 that calendar year, then it doesn't slide at all because the signing age is considered to be 20.

Honzek in the AHL will slide if he doesn't play 10 NHL games.
Brzustewicz in the AHL won't see his slide at all because he signed at 19 and turns 20 before the end of the year.

edit: didn't see your edit, lol

Good showing, but I've never seen someone playing at the NHL level need to add weight and get stronger so badly.

The previous clip happened to lesser degrees in the previous games. He just never got dumped like in the Chicago game.

Relatively easy fix. Kid will return to the NHL sooner rather than later. Maybe he'll get reps as a centre while he's down there.

He's a guy who needs to be in the weight room more than he needs to be playing. Once he's strong enough, everything else will fall in place. I hope Calgary is smart with the way they handle him.

If he stays working out with Pospisil for another couple off seasons the sky is the limit for him. He did what he needed to do at camp to prove all the doubters (basically every Flames fan) wrong about his progress.

He could easily have 3 goals if he had some puck luck, he's gotten some dangerous looks. Very excited to see how he progresses, but I don't think that'll be in the NHL this year.

His possession numbers are pretty good. It just looks like bad puck luck. He doesn’t look terribly lost out there. Just not quite yet. Give him 9 games. Send him to the AHL and good luck next year.

Looked good, played well imo. Could've easily gotten a few goals and made some vet level plays.

That being said let him go down. Coronato last night was likely our best player aside from Wolf. Honzek has all the time in the world to gain some weight and think faster
