Sounds like he is the next Emerson Etem. I wouldn't put much stock in a prospect when they have played 170 games in the same junior league.

Except Etem used physical attributes and had 0 hockey IQ and Steel is the polar opposite.

Isnt he pretty solid on both ends, idk if hes a future 2c but a line of

Jones steel silfverberg as a 2nd line could be a solid line in the next few years

Not even close to the same type of player. Steel also almost has as many points as Etem did during his post-draft season in about half the games.

Not sure why playing 170 games in the same junior league (when you're only 18) is a bad thing either.

Hmm I'll keep that in mind and start striking some players off my list of "players to watch for the future".

Players that I need to take off that list:

Mitch Marner
Connor McDavid
Mark Scheifele
Claude Giroux

It is amusing to think how many 1000's of comments Steel would be generating had he been picked by the TML's. If the Nylander/Matthews threads are any indication, it would be multiple threads!

Except Sam Steel isn't on a Nylander/Matthews level, so I fail to see your point. He'd probably getting as many pages as Kapanen is.

His linemate is a Leafs pick and has fewer posts, but yes there's a higher volume of TML posters so there'd likely be more posts. That doesn't have anything to do with Steel though.

Lol Huh? He's played 170 games because he started with the Pats as a 16 year old and scored almost a PPG then. He wasn't going to make the Ducks team this year so he can't play anywhere else but with the Pats. Not everyone drafted in the first round go immediately to the NHL.

He compares to Etem because they were both drafted by the Ducks, played in the dub and are left handed shots but that's where the comparisons stop Steel is a way better player.

Give McDavid some slack, at least he played at the prerequisite age of 18 for all future NHL players. He's not going to turn into much because of his long OHL career, but he should be a decent 4th line grinder maybe :sarcasm:

Sam Steel, though. I really wish he'd gotten some playing time this year. Now that he hasn't made the team by age 18, we all know he's just another career ECHLer.

Seriously, though. I don't see the comparison between him and Etem at all. They, as previously noted, are complete and polar opposites. Etem was a man against boys and despite his low hockey IQ he scored often due to being faster and stronger than anyone else. Steel's strongest trait is his hockey IQ. He's a very smart player, and pretty well-rounded overall. There is absolutely no comparison here.

The Pats are going on a run this spring for sure. A Really good defense complimented by a wicked offense led by Steele and Brooks. Only bad luck or a rash of injuries keeps them from rolling over the rest of the west once the playoffs come around.
He's a great pick and in 32 gp he has already matched the 70pts he ran up last season in 72gp.

Steel with a four point night brings him to 80 (33+47) in 36 games. Pretty insane numbers and jump in production.

Better numbers than Mitch Marner's draft+1 year. Also doing in tougher league to score than the OHL and without Allstar linemates. What a player. Should be a bonafide #1 C in the NHL.

When I see Steel performances, I always think about this message from last year's draft.

Asplund does everything Steel does except with far more compete and drive.

While Asplund seems like a fine player, let's say this assessment doesn't look very good right now... to say the least.
