I want to get in early with my nickname proposal Stompin Matt Savoie (I'm a big band fan what can I say.)
I’d call him Macho Man. Don’t expect that to make much sense apart from explaining how my train of thought sometimes goes through thick forest and off cliffs.I want to get in early with my nickname proposal Stompin Matt Savoie (I'm a big band fan what can I say.)
His ceiling is Brayden Point.
Bumping the presumptive team captain off the roster entirely isn’t really “fine”. It would be hugely surprising for Savoie to make the team in 22-23 at all, but if he does it won’t be at KO’s expense.Back to Winnipeg in 22/23.
23/24. 2004 birthday so it's NHL or juniors. If he makes the roster, he takes Okposo (56% D-Zone) spot. I guess that's fine, seems pointless for him to spend another full season in the WHL. No way you start him at center in his first year.
Skinner Tage Tuch
Quinn Cozens Peterka
Krebs Mitts Savoie
Asplund XXXXX Olofsson

Sorry, I should have had more caffeine and at least one eye open prior to commenting.I said it would happen in 23/24, not 22/23...
WHL or NHL onlyCan he play in the AHL next season? Or is it just WHL or NHL?
I get a Briere / LaFontaine vibe from the kid. Both very good things.
You guys set very high bar.
That’s who he reminds of because he is a heavy player. Endless talk of size is so focused on height versus overall bodyYep, knew this was Savoie all along if he was there. Nice pick. The next Briere?
Why does height even matter in hockey? Wouldnt length be more relevant? Length also could differ based on stick length. That’s who he reminds of because he is a heavy player. Endless talk of size is so focused on height versus overall body

Is that true? Shorter players suffer more concussions?Part of it is due to shorter guys being prone to a lot more head contact when checked, even incidentally.

I get the weight argument. I don’t know if smaller means less durable though. Small guys typically avoid contact more than larger players. That can be both positive and negative. It's something brought up when NHL types talk about short players being shy of high-traffic areas. It takes some level of disregard for one's own safety to skate into a place that the elbows are right in line with one's face. In Savoie's case similar to how Briere played, there is that disregard for his own safety and also the moxie to go into those places to do the job.
Also, there are some conversations with general durability due to a lack of mass. We don't see many guys at all under 180 lbs. now. Look at how Hughes got body slammed in Seattle early in the season. It's still a territorial contact game.
