Somewhere upthread Savoie's ppg was an issue in that he was slightly behind his production of last season. That appears to no longer be an issue:

21-22 ppg = 1.385 gpg = 0.538

22-23 ppg = 1.481 gpg = 0.611
Do understand that 1.48 is solid but not exceptional at all. Good top line NHL prospects tend to put out between 2-2.5 ppg in the CHL leagues before moving up. He is still very much a long way away from that.

Dylan Cozens was close to 2.25 ppg the second half of his WHL season before moving up.

That said, I am happy to see him improving, but he seems on a good track to spend one more year in the WHL.

Do understand that since January - which I arbitrarily am calling the start of the second half of the WHL season - Savoie has played 27 games and has scored 63 points for an average of 2.33 ppg

In the month of February, Savoie has played 17 games. In that stretch, has has scored 43 points for an average of 2.52 ppg

I too am happy to see him improving, but I'm not sure what track he is on as to league of play.

When I read that post I immediately wondered what Savoie's PPG in the new year was. I knew it had to be over 2. Quite amusing.

Thanks for responding with data. I will have to pay more attention to how he finishes the year. I absolutely hate the NHL/CHL agreement, because if they take him to the NHL next year, they will not send him back to the AHL the year after that, even if that's where he should be. It's a terrible development path.

He looked pretty good in the game though I didn't get to see the last 5 minutes obviously he wasn't as good as the chosen one though.

Same here relative to the NHL/CHL agreement. Especially how it applies to Savoie. He's currently in his 4th year of junior hockey, so next year will be his fifth. Developmentally, he's likely to experience no further growth by playing another year in junior. Unfortunately, one of his junior seasons - during the pandemic - was in the USHL, so it doesn't count. In another unfortunate circumstance, I thought I read somewhere that he was born something like 2 hours past midnight on January 1st of his birth year, so he just barely misses out on the age requirement. of being 20 by December 31st to be able to play in the AHL.

I think an NHL team should be able to own a junior team, so that if they want they can waive their rights on a player they have the rights to. They would have to draft or trade for the player, but at least there would be a way.

Sounds like the pre-expansion, Original Six era.

I think that if Savoie is not NHL ready next year, or if there isn’t space for him on the Sabres (a legit possibility), then there is no reason to think his development would be negatively altered by going back to Junior and being a centre piece on Canada’s World Junior team and on a championship calibre WHL team. There is no rush.

Haha wow. I pretty much rely on you and a few others for minors info. Bedard is going to be as good as they say he is huh?

He seems to be the best draft prospect since Matthews. He has some questions - how does he overcome less than ideal size and not being the fastest guy on the ice namely - but his shooting ability is amazing and he has that combination of dink/compete that reminds me of Sid. He's hard to play against and not just because he can curl off the half wall and wire a shot through a keyhole, but because he's yapping and sticking people and generally being a d-bag.

Yep, got a helper on the Benson goal. That team is just nuts. Geekie with the hattrick.
Chain, since you watch the Ice so much, is Zloty a pro prospect? 2 years of elite production and decent size makes me wonder why no one took a flyer last year.

For sure he gets an NHL contract. How teams view him though is going to be interesting. I see a guy who is kind of variable in his own zone but who can make things pop offensively, in transition, rush and set up in the zone. I suspect he's been someone who was at the impact of COVID time missing seasons.
