If he goes #1 overall (which he definitely might), I'd have a hard time believing he wouldn't be in the NHL next year.

It is usual that the top pick goes straight to the NHL, but you could also argue that Hischier is the least NHL ready and potentially the "worst" 1st pick in the past 15 years.

Players like Drouin and Huberdeau were more dominant at the Jr. level in their draft years and were sent back after being top 3 picks.

Right now I would say it's 50/50 he's back but then again I thought Drouin would stay up and he was sent back. All depends on the team and situation.

As the season went on and became tougher and teams started planning more against him, his production collapsed. He must have been having some sort of injury or sickness; in any case it's not a promising sign.

As much as he was a riser in the 1st half of the season he is a bit of a disappointment in the 2nd half of the season, it looks like.

Hopefully I can eat some crow in a year or two and he'll make an impact in the NHL by then. But it looks like it's going to need some time, if at all.

As someone who hasn't really followed this draft as closely as those prior, is Hischier on par or below Ehlers/Nylander's status rank wise.
Probably slightly ahead. Doesn't have the question marks Nylander did, and plays a more important position than Hischier. My guess is in 2014 he goes 5 or 6 in a tier with Dal Colle. Maybe challenges the top 4, but I would think most would have had Bennett and Reinhart ahead of him.

He would probably go 2nd or 3rd in that draft.

Ah, the two Sams. Maybe the most overrated 'top prospects' in recent memory. I think Hischier can do no worse than them.

It is pretty crazy that neither look like they will be 1st line calibre players at this point.

I haven't seen Hishcier as of late and cannot speak of his struggles. Maybe it's just the fatigue of the long season, but his play at the WJC still sticks with me. He was stupendous.

Hischier had 8 shots on net today, including 4 dangerous shots, and was named the third star of the game; he just couldn't put the puck in the net. Max Fortier had 5 shots on net, including 3 dangerous shots. This has been an ongoing trend for the last month or so.

He didn't deserve the star(only reason was because it was in Halifax) as Rouyn-Noranda dominated except for when Halifax was on their 10 PP's. All of his chances were on the PP and he was owned in the FO dot like usual only going 7/18. Only reason every game hasn't been a blowout is because of Alexis Gravel

Hischier will need a huge U18's as his last 2 months haven't been good

I don't think he needs a huge U-18's to go one at this point. A lot comes down to info we simply don't have which is Nolan Patrick's medical. Although, each passing day it really doesn't look like the top 2 have really separated themselves from the pack of guys like Vilardi and Mittelstadt.

For the record, Hischier took 4 of his 8 shots on the powerplay. Fortier took 2 of his 5 shots on the powerplay. With ten powerplay opportunities, Halifax needed to capitalize, but Hischier and Fortier took nearly half of the team's 29 shots in this match.
