Critchlow has easily been one of the most consistent and hardest working players on the team. He is a great captain and leads by example. Having a defensively responsible player on the MacKinnon/Frk line who can get the job done was a great choice by Ducharme.

Good. It drove me nuts seeing him play Tuesday and holding his shoulder after every shift. Let him get to 100%. Silly risk to take.

The other thing about Mackinnon that people who don't get to watch him live don't see is how all around his game is. He plays a very strong defensive game and does not shy away from contact either. Looking forward to the upcoming U17's.

Thanks for the feedback, i'm looking into making other prospect videos.
But on the subject of Mackinnon, I haven't been able to see him live this year yet, so I'm looking forward to seeing him and all parts of his game in Gatineau later this year.

MacKinnon had a terrible game last night against Cape Breton. He has very little clue how to play the center in his own end, turned the puck over quite a bit, overhandled the puck, stickhandled with his head down, and didn't distribute the puck all that well. As a 16 year old that can improve with time but he sure looks more like a winger at this stage then a center. I see him being similar to Taylor Hall at the same age.
He still displays tremendous skating and above average stickhandling. I would say it's over 50% that he will be switched to wing at the next level.
While I'm at it, the Halifax team in general has too many star players who couldn't care less about defense. Andrew Ryan was the only one who stayed on his point and played the game the right way (pro way). I came away from this game impressed by him. He is big, a good skater and cycles the puck well.

He plays shockingly similar to Kovalchuk
but that's fine. He's got time to sort out his work in the d zone.

The last 3-4 games i've watched i've been disappointed with Mackinnons play. It seems ever since his shoulder injury he hasn't been playing the same. I'm not too concerned though, as mentioned he is still only a couple months past his 16th birthday.

I've seen Mackinnon play 8 times this year. 4 of those games he was chosen as the first star, 3 of those I would agree with. His first 2 or 3 steps are pro ready but his defensive ability is lacking for a center. He only has 8 points less then Grigorenko with the same amount of games played.
I would certainly say that he will go top 15 in the 2013 draft. Does anyone think that he would go in the first round if he were in this years draft?

top 15? lol...wow you really underestimate him A LOT...not sure if you see a lot of hockey or not...but my 16 or more years scouting hockey I have to say not too many players came through as good as Nathan, I can see someone playing it safe and saying probably top 2 or 3 for the draft....but top 15 LOL...you really think there are going to be 15 players better than him LOL, if that is the case this draft will go down as the best of all time for top end talent.

I'm from Halifax so I didn't want to seem bias, but I feel like he'll be a top 5 pick with a big possibility of number 1. Scoutman I do watch a lot of hockey actually I'm a season ticket holder with the Moose. Jonathan Drouin and Zach Fucale have stood out just as much as MacKinnon this season. Don't forget about Seth Jones, Max Domi, Sean Monahan, and Aleks Barkov as other potential #1's.

i did not forget them...but (A) just because your a moose head fan call it as you see it...I mean really top 15.........also Domi is not in Mackinnons league nor is Monahan....Barkov has the talent to be up there but still not AS good yet...and Jones is a late, he is very very good but not up with Mackinnon yet...Barkov has the most chance to catch him but Barkov does not have that skating yet nor offensive ability yet........also Shinkaurk I would take before Monahan in the draft....Drouin and Fucale stood out yet...as much as Mackinnon well fucale might have but not a on a Mackinnon level for a draft....nor has Drouin stood out as much....watch drouin and he is good but smaller, and does not make the plays mackinnon plays...Drouin is far off of Mackinnon.
Barkov is 16 and he is 205 lbs his lower body strength haven't been in the same pace with his physical developement. When i watched Barkov at 13-14 he was actually pretty good skater sooner or later his lower body strength will get better. Barkov might be average skater at this point but MacKinnon is quite small. I think that you're underestimating Barkov's offensive ability. He can make highlight reel plays at high level like we saw at WJC. I don't say that his offensive game is on the par with MacKinnon but we haven't seen any players for last 20 years from europe to put Barkov-like numbers in top european league. I don't know about MacKinnons two-way game but Barkov is an elite two-way player like we saw at WJC, he was barely 16 year old at WJC playing PK, creating chances in every game even against tougher competitions. Barkov is playing 18 minutes per night sometimes he has 20+min TOI at FEL as a 16 year old playing all situations...
IMO MacKinnon has higher potential, i could see him being 90+pts player with a chance to be 100+pts player.
Barkov has in my opinion good chance to be PPG player at NHL at his prime maybe 90+pts at his peak. With elite defensive game. I've stated it before if he developes like he projects he gonna be annual selke nominee. He has Datsyuk like ability to play in the pressure with his smooth stickhandling and smart game+he's amazing at takeaways best of FEL for sure + add his ability to take space and time away from opposite player at the defensive-zone with his big body and long range.
IMO MacKinnon is #1 overall pick at this point because he has most offensive potential and he plays in NA. Barkov might even fall to around 3-5 range because he plays in europe. But it's hard to see an player at 2013 draft who is MENTALLY as mature as he is. He is physically one of the most mature players aswell, one of the youngest players for the draft, probably best two-way player with elite offensive skills. It's like picking Stamkos or Datsyuk. Both excellent talents and 2013 draft is going to be very sick. The difference of MacKinnon and Barkov isn't as big like people think. MacKinnon has done great things so has Barkov. Barkov has chance to be generational talent from europe. Seth Jones is pretty damn good aswell but hes about 1 year older than Barkov and MacKinnon but i could see a team picking Jones over Barkov or MacKinnon if they need an #1 defenceman and is stacked offensively but i highly doubt that defenceman goes #1.
At this point i could see it going like this at this point:
#1 MacKinnon - Best offensive potential, very good star potential
#2/3 Barkov - Best overall player, safest bet and has good star potential
#2/3 Jones - Best defender, one of the best defensive prospect if not best in the past 5-10 years. Very good #1 D potential
Barkov has potential to go #1, i doubt that Jones goes #1 because him being early born and we rarely seen defenceman getting picked as #1.

Everyone does realize that he's just 16, right? His game definitely is reasonably raw, but that's what you expect from a 16 year old, even one who has 1st overall potential. His acceleration and speed with the puck is simply exceptional, and for a 16 year old who plays at really high speeds, I'd say his hands, general skill level and hockey IQ are all pretty good. Definitely has plenty of work to do in those areas, but he's not some grinder here who can only skate fast, he's pretty skilled and smart for his age, and for the type of game he plays. He looks a fair bit like Taylor Hall at the same age. If you're expecting to see Crosby 2.0 when you watch him, you'll come away disappointed, but if you just watch him without expectations I think he looks VERY promising.

his main problem and once he learns it he will be scary dominant in the games, is how to slow the game down and speed it up...right now when he is on the ice it is full out for him and nothing else, like when skating with the puck he goes 100mph per hour when everyone else is skating like 60...he takes himself into situations too fast and with no plan because no one else is usually up with him, he causes too much work for himself where as if he uses different gears players would be up with him, he could catch defense off the guard using slow then speed it up...once he learns to slow it down and when and how to speed it up he will be scary, if he never learns it, well we will be talking about that next year if he doesn't learn....that comes to hockey sense...it is funny his hockey sense isn't bad as he knows where to move in the offensive zone with the puck and get open, he has good vision and playmaking ability, the blip in his hockey sense is the not knowing how and when to speed the game up and when to slow it down...usually I say hockey sense can not be improved much...but he understands the games, sees the ice, his awareness is very good, so he might get it.

Wasn't great defensively but he's only 16 and that could improve so much. Impressed me very much. Easily the fastest skater that played last night. Had a nice breakaway, sadly didn't score but did get an assist later in the game. Also a penalty for cross checking I believe as well.

Hey man, be nice, he's only 180 pounds.
I so wish I could watch him play live. From the videos of him that I've seen he looks like an incredible player.
