Let's not jump the gun. I expect Vigneault to ruin their confidence by cutting their ice time pretty fast.

AV has publicly praised Farabee and the icetime reflects that. Now Frost is with G and TK and was also taking reps on the top PP in place of Voracek.

The young guys are getting their chance to prove the old heads wrong, now it’s up to them to pull through on it.

This has been a criticism of AV for his entire career, not just his Ranger tenure.

And it's always been silly. This is a guy who was playing 21-year-old Edler 21+ minutes per night and feeding 22/23 year old Kesler as much icetime as the Sedins. He's always been willing to give time to young players if they don't, y'know, suck...it's just that the overwhelming spirit of HF is that anyone drafted by their team in the first two rounds is a guaranteed blue-chipper, and every coach is a stone-cold moron for not icing a team comprised entirely of rookies.

I see him having an odd career. Serviceable player for 10 years that puts up a very good amount of points then signs a crazy contract, after that he is a consistent 20-30 point player but manages to have a long career.

The "Vigneault hates young players!" thing is a myth ginned up by Rangers fans who likely didn't realize their organization didn't have any good young players.

Burn!

No, he misused young players.

The same thing applies to when he coached the Canucks. If he's changed, good for him, but doesn't revise his career because he now coaches your team.

I’m not an AV fan but to be fair to him he hasn’t done anything egregiously bad just yet in regards to usage for young players. But it’s only been 21 games so far so there’s still plenty of time left to change that.

Which ones? Only interesting names I can think of on the Rangers are Chytil and DeAngelo. Most of the guys Canucks fans complained over ended up not being very good players after all (if you want to attribute that to AV, alright, but I think that's a leap).

He misused Buchnevich and DeAngelo badly, who are both now having success under Quinn. Quinn isn’t even a good coach, but he let them succeed. AV didn’t. He completely held them back.

He also scratched your second line center in favor of Tanner Glass in a playoff game.

I’m not an expert about his time in Vancouver, so I’ll let them talk about specifics.

Maybe they just wern't, that, good, or, like, ready at that time? Just a thought.

Third line center*

You can make every excuse in the world you want for this guy, but this has always been his reputation. It’s followed him everywhere he’s coached.

It doesn’t mean he won’t coach differently with your team, but these are pretty bad excuses Flyers fans are using. You wouldn’t have made them for him prior to when he signed with your team.

Probably would guess his namesake (Buchnevich) but I am not sure. The only young player I think he actually misused was Fast but that was almost more of a overplayed in a role I don't know if he necessarily was meant for and soon got pidgeonholed into it for his career.

I forgot to mention that Vigneault had such a bad relationship with another young player, JT Miller, that he requested he was traded at the trade deadline the year he was fired, and that required the Rangers to rush a trade, which resulted in what amounted to Miller for Namestnikov.

Canucks fans here. In Vancouver AV Didn’t mismanage young players. People tend to forget he was the coach who developed Kesler, Edler, Raymond, Schneider and Burrows. He had Cody Hodgson in a 3rd line role which was perfect for him. From an outside perspective idk what Ranger fans complained about, Hayes and Miller Developed into pretty decent players under him. They had no one else really

I didn't comment based on what I didn't know. I only stated that I heard his reputation with Vancouver wasn't very good. I didn't watch that many games to make a determination myself. You shouldn't comment based on what you don't know, unless you extensively watched the Rangers until Vigneault.

He forced a trade of Miller, misused Hayes. They developed in spite of him mostly due to the fact that they eventually were given minutes, despite the clear friction there between player and coach. I'm also glad to know that Buchnevich and DeAngelo, two players who've developed into top half/third of the league players under Quinn are "no one else."
