I question you ability to evaluate a player then because he has been terrific. Easily a top 5 foward in the tournament.
He has outplayed Yakupov, Galchenyuk, and Forsberg.

Ya who is ahead of him then? Its obvious you havent payed attention to Russia so far which is fine, but dont make foulish comments like he hasent impressed you when he has put the team on his back and everyone who knows the game has been impressed.
Yep this just proved what I thought. Iam not gonna bother debating with a guy who probably hasent watched most of the games and is likely basing everything of stats. Its almost laugable that Scheifele is ahead on this list, and Kucherov makes your list but the guy who creates most of that lines chances is a disapiontment? And Galchenyuk has had 2 very good games and onr was against Germany. RNH is a no brainer.
Anyway I dont feel like arguing this topic anymore

The difference is that Yak has looked terrible doing it. Hasn't used his teammates well, keeps trying to beat 4 defenders by himself only to end up losing the puck or getting off a weak shot, etc., while Grigorenko has actually been creating chances for his linemates and could have several more points if they were having better puck luck. Yakupov might be tied with Grigs and Kucherov in points, but he's not even close to playing as well as them right now (maybe too much pressure for him between his "superstar" billing, captaincy, and home ice?). Grigorenko put that team on his back today against the Swiss. Hate all you want, I guess, but he's having a very good tournament.

They still haven't given Grigorenko his assist on the game winner against Slovakia in OT. He won the faceoff and the puck went directly on defense.
Lol, have you seen a single game? Just curious, I mean first you're attempting to compare how terribly Yakupov has played to how well Grigorenko has played, then you say Kucherov has carried the team, which I agree with, along with Grigorenko. I mean, if the Swiss captain doesn't score to tie it up then we're talking about how Grigorenko was so wonderful that day for scoring the only goal in the shootout.

Won back to one D (forget who), who passed it to Yarulin for the goal. In the NHL that's definitely a secondary assist, but my understanding is that Euros tend to be much stingier with crediting those/usually just give primary assists?
The poster brought this thread up was asking the people who watch him played recently, not the people who only read stats.....
Really don't see how you can say Grigorenko has been disappointing, watching the games I really think he's been the best Russian forward. Kucherov has been real good two, they've been a dynamic duo feeding off one another, but IMO Grigorenko has been the go to guy on the team, I fail to see how that's disappointing.

He had a great tournament. He always seemed to make the right play. He was also alright defensively. Very happy with his progress.
Very similar game to all of the games hes played in the tournament. The difference is he scored the goal to tie it up and that gets much more notice. Grigorenko is going to get a lot of the Joe Thornton treatment in the NHL. They both have the ability to be goal scorers but look to pass first so when their teammates are off they end up looking like bums no matter how many scoring chances they create.
While he didn't light it up, points-wise, he did have some clutch goals/assists. His shooting % was less than 8%, that wouldn't last. He has too good of a shot for that trend to continue.
The kid has a lot of doubters for no real reason, hopefully he uses it to stay motivated.

Either way, I think Grigs is arguably in the top 5 which ever way you slice it.

Grigorenko was extremely impressive. A dominant force at times. Looked a trillion times better than Yakupov.

Grigorenko was also better than Yakupov in last year's WJC, until he got injured. He came back but played with an injured ankle and it didn't help him.

Like Getzlaf in the years after his draft, people are going to be wondering for years how Grigorenko fell so far in the 2012 draft.

He's proving that he belonged in the top 3 afterall. If the draft were held today, I think the top 5 might look like:
1) Galchenyuk
2) Yakupov
3) Grigs
4) Trouba
5) Murray
