It's possible that he'll come out as the best player in the entire draft... But to say that the reasons he fell are superficial isn't accurate. What we (the fans) heard is different than what the scouts themselves had access to. I really doubt that Grigo was not interviewed by the top 10 teams. I also am not sure if the Sabres had the chance to interview him since they probably didn't think they'd have a chance to pick him. When it comes to scouting or any type of recruitment, you have to go based on experience and character to determine potential. Without character, the person's potential may be limited. The Sabres draft record would indicate their scouts are better than most teams at evaluating players, and I know for sure that they did their due diligence on Grigs. Time will tell is right, but I think it's pretty obvious that a lot of the reasons Grigorenko fell are pretty superficial.

All of this to say that I have no idea what Grigorenko is really like because I haven't sat down and interviewed him myself...
Almost all the teams interview the top prospects, even if they won't have a chance to pick them. I'm sure the Sabres did too. Even Yakupov had something like 27 or 28 interviews, I believe.

Sabres confirmed Patrick Roy that Grigorenko would play the whole year in Québec.
Good for them, they need him, things aren't goin well since he left.
But he plays on a stacked team that's why his stats are that good!!!![]()
Depth is awesomeAnd Halifax is doing as well as before without MacKinnon and Drouin.![]()
Agreed. Not just the hands/shot/skill, but he's skating well, has been consistently involved in the play, and his passing and general decision making with the puck have been very good. If the draft was held again today, I'd be very surprised if he slipped to 12th overall, I feel like he's been proving critics wrong pretty well in both the Q and the WJC (I say this as someone who was a bit of a critic previously).Russia's best forward at the WJC imo.
it's great watching him play with Kucherov, Tampa could have had those 2
Thought Grigs looked much better than Yakupov in the Swiss game.

For all the flak Yakupov gets, they're both tied in pts.

Half his points are secondary assists.
