C Mikhail Grigorenko - Quebec Remparts, QMJHL (2012 draft) III

Grigorenko was fantastic this tournament offensive and looked very solid in his own end as well, I though today was a maybe his worst game of the tournament but he still created many chances but just wasn't able to capitalize, he had a very tough match up going up against Jenner and Danult all game long who are two of the best defensive players in the entire CHL. Grigorenko also maid a very good defensive play in overtime where he literally saved the game for Russia as Hamilton had a open net.

Anyone have Grigorenko's faceoff stats from today? would be interesting to see how many he won(if any) against Jenner.

Unfortunately, these two will always be compared. Theyre both high profiled talents who look to be progressing well, and were drafted by division rivals. I'm happy with Grigs. I love his game. And he proved in this tournament that he can be effective and produce in big games.I'm sure Has fans are just as happy with Gal.

So, get used to the debates. It will only get worse.

There is a difference between having a logical debate and what has gone on though, most posters will pump up one guy only to bash on the other. The reality is that both guys have a very similar skill set and pedigree, both as have a very good opportunity with their respective teams. I dont see how you could like one and not the other as both are players that every team should want in the system and both top 15 prospects in the world.

A Grigorenko that doesn't capitalize is not a fantastic Grigorenko. And that's coming from a Grigo fan. 'Cause if he would have had, what would have called him? Would you have started a thread "Who's better than Grigorenko?" ;)

Grigs wasn't even PPG and he's praised like he tore up the tournament. I really thought he played lethargic at times during the tournament. He looked good against Sweden, but completely invisible vs. Canada. His stats are a good indicator of his play in the tournament. Nothing special.

Aren't you the guy who thought Yakupov was playing better than Grigorenko?

Whatever you say, quite obvious about your anti Grigorenko agenda in this thread. I still would not trade Grigs for anyone from the '12 draft and us Sabre fans are glad to have him. Steal of the draft, feels good to get a franchise center at #12 :laugh:
 
So what you're saying is, had he been credited with a faceoff assist on the GWG against Slovakia (something that's always counted in the NHL) he'd be a PPG and therefore worthy of the praise he's garnered?

Why do you keep coming back here when you dont contribute to the thread, you dont even watch prospects play which you basically stated in another thread, and its quite obvious you didnt pay attention to Grigorenko this tournament. If you have an opinion that you can back up then fine, but you dont

That is a foulish thing to say I agree, but when you look at how strong the Sabres back end looks for years to come it wouldnt make sence to move him for even Murray, The only 2 would be Yakupov and Galchenyuk.

How come all the media, Russian hockey, and fans are giving him praise for a very solid tournament but you are left unimpressed? Russia named him as there teams top foward over both Kucherov and Yakupov so that shows what they thought of him. I think you are forgetting that he was a #12 overall pick.

That doesn't even make sense. The Sabres #1 need is scoring line center. Galchenyuk maybe? But i don't know what to make of him not playing center for the US. I know moving to wing is part of a center's development sometimes, but that's always when they are playing above their level. Like a rookie in the NHL. This tourney was all his peers.

-Galchenyuk had 3rd line minutes and played with Barber and Kuraly. Grigo was on the 1st/2nd line with Slepyshev and Kucherov.

-How many points would Grigo have gotten on Gally's line? Maybe 3? And Gally on Russia's 1st line? At least 10.

-Galchenyuk was never used in his natural position.

So Sabres fans, keep telling yourself that Grigo is better. Maybe if you dream about it enough, it will come true.:shakehead

Galchenyuk is most definetly a center in the NHL, Yakupov is a lot better than he showed.

I already stated as to why I was left unimpressed with him at times during the tournament.

Well, i would hope so considering he was drafted #3 overall as a center. Backwards to say he's definitely the harder position at the higher level though. If Russia had Grigs playing wing i would be pretty worried about what's going on that we don't know about.
 
Grigorenko had a fantastic tournament and was the best player on a great Russian team.

He showed fire, heart and desire to win.
