They're different players. Moroz is a Kassian-esque player while Poirier is a speedy winger and isn't physical at all. I'm sure it's well known that Poirier is the most talented out of the two if that's what you're getting at... But they're completely different players. It's like saying Grandlund is better than Tom Wilson, not really fair now is it? Especially when they both have only played in the CHL.
I'm pretty sure you guys are talking to the same poster that compared Poirier to Hemsky and said he wasn't physical whatsoever.
It wasn't even that bad of a comment it was just blown way out of proportion. He said that he was going to move the pick until his head of scouting saw Janko play. He said his head of scouting said he believes that Janko could be one of the better players in his draft in the long run. People just took it as Feaster saying he thought Janko was the best player.
In 10 years, Feaster predicted, “Jankowski will be viewed as the best player in the 2012 draft,†adding “We felt we could take the gamble.â€
I saw it quoted as such:

That's idiotic to me because it puts unnecessary pressure on the kid and gives unrealistic expectations to the fanbase. But your mileage may vary.

It's mediocre at best.
Never been on high on Jankowski, he shows promise here and there, but i don't know if he will ever put it together.
So how is this guy doing? 12 points in 19 games, he has as many goals as he did last season in 34 games, so I guess he is improving. I really don't have any knowledge about him, just hoping the best for him.

Look how long it took Blake Wheeler to put it together. He played four years of hockey following his draft year before turning pro, and now he's looking every bit the 5th overall pick he was. Jankowski was drafted what, 21st overall?
But why was this kid drafted so early?? Don't they usually take a flyer on this kind of five+ year plans on later rounds. He sounds like some fourth round type of pick.
He is, or should have been. And his production & development is reflective of that.
But Feaster &/or the scouts had their heads up their collective ying yangs.
It was the forward version of the Kings taking Hickey, the Oilers taking Niinimaki.
Stupid.
But not as stupid as the commentary afterward from the Flames brasssaying where he would rank in a few years time.

Because he has a big ceiling. Look no farther than the Wheeler pick.

Well for starters, Jankowski was ranked to go somewhere in the second round. It is widely speculated that there were other teams that would have taken him after 21 in the first round.
Second, if youre not drafting top 5 its worthwhile to take a chance on a kid who has a high ceiling. Jankowski has a high ceiling but is such a raw prospect, there is still a good chance he doesnt reach it. Plus it makes even more sense for a team like the flames, who at the time, lacked high end talent and were stocked with depth guys.
I wont lie, as a Flame fan I wanted Maatta. But i never disliked this pick.
