Actually he's looking quite good for a freshman, esp. since he wasn't highly touted and came right from high school.

an NHL first round pick is not highly touted? People are usually in high school right before they go to college

I think he meant in terms of play. Like Canadian high school hockey, Not sure how many NCAA players have come straight from Quebec high school hockey as a true freshman.

Haters? He was ranked 43rd among North Americans in a weak draft.

Compare that to this year and he is going in the 4th or 5th round.

When will people realize that the only rankings that matter are the ones the NHL teams have?
It is well known a couple other teams would have taken him in the mid to late 20s.
So the fact he was ranked 43rd means absolutely nothing except to fans who just spend days looking at lists.

Oh come on. You know's that no true. Besides, when has CSS's ratings meant anything? Skinner was 34th on their ratings despite dominating Taylor Hall in the playoffs and scoring 50 goals.

I actually question whether other teams actually did want him in the first round.

Calgary didn't play their cards very well on this one. It was no secret that this was who the flames wanted.

When Maata, Tervainen (sp?) and samuellsen (sp?) were still on the board i imagine the same conversation that ottawa and TO had regarding kadri taking place with feaster and other teams. Especially since Calgary wanted to see how far they could trade down and still take him. "Hey, we're thinking of trading down but we want to make sure our guy is still there, is jankowski your guy?" 15-22 "Nope". After that, "Ummmmm...." *looks at sheet of paper and see's the above mentioned players still up for grabs. "Yeah, Jankowski's our guy."

Feaster then only trades down to the last known team who said they weren't interested in him. The other teams are then happy because that's one more team they don't have to worry about taking their player.

From the opposite perspective of trading up:

It was also no secret that the Oilers wanted Sameullsen (sp?). But they weren't sucessfull in trading up to get him as every team in the 24-30 range knew that's who the Oil wanted.

This isn't true the Coyotes tried to trade up with Calgary after they traded down but the Flames passed when the Coyotes said they wanted Janko

That MUST be what happened.

yep

I love when people make the same joke several others have still made and somehow think they're being funny.

It's not a joke. It's a reasoned opinion. Let's examine the facts:

- Jay Feaster is on record stating that Jankowski will be the best player born in his draft year.

- Calgary is currently the 29th placed team in the league.

Well he said Wesibrod told him in 10 years he will be. You think Feaster will even be around that long? avg gm shelf life is like 4 years on a team if even.

I don't think the negativity with Jankowski has anything to do with Jankowski and everything to do with Feaster's smug attitude. Your post and the post you quoted really touch on that.

He felt this, and yet he traded down 7 spots before he picked him so it's reasoned opinion he'd take him at 5 when he didn't even take him at 14?

You don't usually hear GMs or scouts saying the draft is deep or not until around draft time, but this year both GMs and scouts have said this draft is very deep from last year and to this day. This is a deep draft.

Anyway, Janko would probably be a late first.

I stand corrected. I suppose he could always trade down again to pick him up.

Feaster said his head of scouting said that it was a quote its like people didn't even listen to the interview.

His draft year being 2012, it's entirely possible that Feaster would like one of the 2013s more than Jankowski. Feaster was also quoting Weibrod, not making that statement himself.
