Yep he was a fantastic selection.
So many people dislike him as a player because they looked at the PPG production last season or drastically overrate his supposed terrible hockeysense. He was always a prospect that was going to make major strides each season because his skillset and size is so rare and hes reported to be a extremely hard worker. When youre drafting a kid you aint drafting him for the player he is today but what you think he will turn into like 5-7 years down the road.

There's no reason with his talent that he cant turn into a Getzlaf type player.

I think he'll score more than Getzlaf.

is zacha playing center with sarnia or left wing?

He was playing 2nd line center until the Mistele trade...then they bumped him up to 1st line LW. I'm curious where he'll play with Konecny now. Hopefully they play on the same line. Zacha, Mistele, Chychrun, Korostelev, and now Konecny...wow Sarnia is really all in

Living in close proximity to Sarnia, I've had the chance to watch a ton of Zacha. I've been a big fan of his since the beginning and he's really developed nicely as a player. He's got great power to his game and owns a great shot but he's not a pure skill guy like some are suggesting. Yes, he's got good skill that will benefit him in the NHL and can likely be considered average-slightly above average as a future Top 6 but he's unlikely to toe-drag the opposition or dangle through multiple defenders. He relies on strong physical skills and quick decisive movements.

Man relax with the word elite

He has a shot that rates around 70 already, stick skills around 65 and skating that rates 65 to 70. His skills are pretty damn good. All at 6`3 215.

Agreed. Using "elite" to describe his offensive skills is inaccurate.

I think he'll score more than Getzlaf.

Poor-mans Getzlaf but he's probably a better skater than Getzlaf was at the same age. Getzlaf sees the ice much better than Zacha (it's one of Zacha's weaknesses)

He compared him to Bobby Ryan.

Ryan has better puck skills but it's not a terrible comparison.

With all that being said, I believe he will be a great player for NJ and he is a great start for their rebuild. Big skilled player, still has time to develop. He'll be a skilled top 6 player for NJ. He has the tools (size, skill set), he will have time to work with the devils new management.

Doesn't really mean anything and I hope he's wrong but....

The last time I was this pissed about a pick was Tedenby in 2008 instead of Carlson. This draft I wanted Barzal over Zacha. Sure hope pro scouts know more than me

You realize 6 other forwards went between Zacha and Barzal, right? If we don't pick Zacha, he is very likely the next forward picked.

Flyers fans thought Barzal would be your guys pick. When we were figuring out who we wanted, we pretty much had Barzal off the board.

But Zacha will pick it up now with Konecny helping him. :sarcasm:

Uhhh and you're basing this off of what exactly?

What you're essentially saying is if every player picked at a particular draft spot was instead passed over by a team, the next team is "very likely" to draft said person. That's silly.

I don't understand what you're even getting at here. Who cares what some Flyers' fans thought the Devils would do?

Zacha has 30 points in 23 games this season on a not exactly offensively gifted Sarnia team. Of course Konecny should help increase his production, but he isn't even doing bad. Funny how people can fire off about Zacha "needing help", but when you suggest some other top picks have padded stats based on their stacked teams you have people losing their **** over that.

I'm basing it off of that fact that Zacha was ranked in the 5-10 range by almost everyone, so the chances of him going in that range (as most mock drafts by experts also predicted) were very high. This rhetoric like we picked Zacha way higher than we should have is absurd when almost everyone had him going around there. We picked the best forward available at the time, and only time will tell if it was the best pick, yet we have people saying it was a bad pick already. That's laughable and shows a complete ignorance to the drafting and development process.

Relax....I was just adding input from what we thought would happen. I never said Zacha was a bad pick, just that we thought you were picking Barzal.

And I know Sarnia is so low scoring team and hence, adding Konecny will help share the offensive burden. Maybe you missed the sarcasm smilie?

3 goals for Konecny, 2 assists for Zacha tonight....share the burden.

I actually took it as you sarcastically trashing Zacha by that smilie, instead of as a genuine comment about him getting more points.
