I don´t think anyone in my country ever had the slightest thought it was an insult towards the country. It is of course possible that some players value the medal a lot more and in that sense it could be seen as disrespectful towards them. I dont think he had the slightest thought to insult his team or his country but as you point out it could very well be that he did. Although, the team knows him very well and they are all close since they been playing together since they were 15 (in the national team). Dont think anyone in the team takes it personal but who knows.
