That looked like a beer league. Perfetti wasn't even skating fast. Weird.
It was weird . And the D he blew by- the one who couldn’t pivot - has played a few games in NHL. Jeezes..

And general observation . Interesting how the game has evolved where a player - both undersized and not overly fast - has confidence to drive far-post at that angle. Back in the day , no wayyy that happens ! I’m all for elimination of head shot, blind sides, runs from behind but sheesh...today’s Dmen ( most of them at least ) just stand there and rely on the stick check

His skating needed/needs work, but he's got the IQ for the game. He had a rough start but the kid is on fire and learning the system. I think he's in the NHL next year at this rate if we can make room.

21 points in 26 AHL games for 18->19 y/o is impressive. To be able to put those numbers up, despite the skating issues, is just a testament to his IQ for the game and his playmaking / stick handling skills. Not like he's playing on a stacked team either.

Does it look like he's going to be able to make the transition to center in the NHL? Not saying that that is a make it or break it criteria for him to meet, but I was always intrigued by his high IQ level... he's smart enough to play down the middle for sure.

The question is if they want him to. Maurice and Chevy have Scheifele/PLD/Lowry down the middle for the next few years and nearly always run a grinder 4C, so a winger spot is the only opening. They love having an abundance of centers that they can move around, so in my opinion they develop him as a C in the minors, bring him into the NHL as a winger and give him C opportunities in line-blender situations and to plug injury holes. From there, it all depends on how he performs.

Maybe use Perfetti and PLD on the same line? When he's ready for more responsibly, let them switch.

He plays like a center in all areas of the ice and his face-offs are pretty good for his age. He also is just fine at supporting dmeb down low and winning pucks in his end.

I think he has the skill and smarts to be an premier NHL center. He may not start there given the Jets have Dubois and Scheifele but I hope he gets converted back to center a couple of years into his NHL career.

If Cole shows himself able I hope the Jets do with Scheifele what the Lightning did with Stamkos and convert him to wing where he can concentrate more on using his shot and generating offense.

Yeah I never thought it was necessary he needed to make the leap into the NHL as a center right away. With the Jets he'll get to play in a top 6 with some pretty good centers out of the gate, and continuing to develop his offensive game in that environment I think is perfect for him.

Agreed that Cole plays like a center, but the question is if he'll be able to adjust to the pace of play in the NHL in that role to really maximize his excellent hockey IQ. With the addition of Dubois to Scheifele, I think the Jets can afford to be patient with Perfetti's development because they don't need to force him into that role.

I'm still curious though, how has his skating improved, if at all?

He has an awkward stance and stride, for sure, but his edge-work, first step, overall speed and mobility seem better than what I'd seen in my pre-draft and WJC viewings. He's never going to be an Ehlers, but if he can get in some reps with a high-end skating coach and put the hours in then I don't really see it holding him back, given how incredibly well he sees the game and his other advanced skillsets (passing, shot, puck protection, angles).

So I'd say it's improved, but he can be better and will need to be. He's clearly an extremely bright and driven kid, and I expect to see definite gains once he's had an offseason or two. For all the craziness of this season it's been interesting to see some of these kids in the A, and had the chance to watch them develop in real-time, as it were.

If Appleton is claimed by Seattle he'll easily more than replace him in the line-up.

He's likely in the line-up for the home-opener in 2021-22. Maybe playoffs even.

You have to admit though, some of the numbers that teenagers are posting in the AHL this year makes you really question the strength of the league
It's a development league....it's not a strong as teh SHL or the KHL

Are the Jets gonna keep Perfetti his entire first pro season in the AHL?.

How much more is he supposed to do in the AHL to earn a call up
or rather, are all the Jets fans happy that he isn't coached by PoMo?

I think most of us are on board with giving him an NHL game as congratulations for the development of his game in the AHL this year, but he's not a good fit for us yet. The Jets are in a slump and Perfetti isn't the answer, so he should continue to build confidence and improve his game with the Moose. Now 13 pts in his last 7 games, he's definitely making progress.

Probably slim to none that any of our big 3 see time with the Jets. So long as Thompson, Lewis and Benn are healthy, they will never see the ice with PoMo calling the shots.
