C Lukas Sutter - Saskatoon Blades, WHL (2012 Draft)

Too bad he couldn't stock up on the staal's

They tried it. He tried to trade up to draft Jordan in 06 (offered Johnson for the #2 pick straight up, Pens wanted Ladd as well so the Canes balked), and the head scout preferred Marc over Johnson in the 05 draft, but Karmanos preferred Johnson so we all know how that one was going to end.

It wasn't mentioned in that article, but I'll be interested to see if he's invited to the U.S. WJC Evaluation camp this summer.

Could happen. Hell, I believe he might draw interest from Hockey Canada too, considering he has dual citizenship.

Yeah, that could very well happen as well. He's another guy that played for the U.S. at the Ivan Hlinka, but we all know what a crapshoot that is for participation in IIHF sanctioned events.

He's the first of the second-generation Sutters to have the prototypical Sutter mean streak and scrappiness. He's also the most talented aside from Brandon.

That said, he still projects as a pure bottom-6 player. Average size, average skater, doesn't have top-6 skills. Very similar skillset to his dad Rich.

If his last name was Smith, he'd be a 4th-5th rounder, but he'll probably be taken in the 45-75 range based on name value.

Definitely a player i'd like the Canucks to take in the 2nd along with team-mate Dalton Thrower in the 1st.

Unless somebody grabs him first, I can't see any way the Canes don't take him with one of their two 2nd round picks. Rutherford is predictable and likes Sutte's, Staals and Plymouth Whalers.

True, someone could nab him, but I don't think he'll go that high. You never know though.
I'm not sure I'd want my team to play it that safe in the 30-37 picks either...but I look at Burke's safe picks in the 2nd round (and 1st, actually) in the last few years, and the Leafs lack of centers who actually play their position well, and he looks a likely candidate. Myself, don't really care, never seen him play other than the top prospects game.

Lukas Sutter

Anybody know anything about him? All I've heard was comparisons to Brandon Dubinsky.

That is a pretty good comparison, but there is a thread on the bottom of page 1 about him.

Here is my scouting report on him,

#23 Lukas Sutter – Grinder [2012]
Pros: Good skater. Solid frame and uses it. Great pest. Loves to hit.
Cons: Hitting leaves him out of position at times. Would like to see him more involved in front of the net than the corners.
Potential: 2nd/3rd line forward

I would personally pick him anywhere in the 3rd round.

I doubt he slips into round 3. He had a ton of interviews at the combine and at this point I think a team with multiple picks in the first 2 rounds will gladly snag him.

I've predicted pick 56 to the Blues in our Blades office pool.

Canes have 2 picks in the 2nd round. Unless Rutheford does some trading / packaging of picks, I predict he'll be selected with pick 47 in round 2.

Wouldnt mind seenig Detroit take him with the 49th, that seems like around where he'll go as well.

Sutter was a late birthday for this past year's draft and now has only 2 points in 10 games on what was supposed to be a championship contending team. Granted, it's semi-early but if I was a Winnipeg fan I'd be a little leery right now considering this is probably supposed to be his last year of junior.

I don't think anyone was expecting him to make the jets for a few years. He's a second round pick. Some bust and some develop. Way too early to say.
