C Leon Draisaitl (2014, 3rd, EDM) II

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
This is about what I would expect, too. Just a note, you're missing Devante Stephens...a guy who was playing top pairing minutes with Bowey pre-WJC. Not sure where he might fit into things...maybe trade bait.

Also have to wonder if they consider pulling the trigger on a deal to get more insurance in goal. Just a crazy thought, but maybe even trading a guy like Stephens, Gatenby or Johansen in a package to get Jarry from Edmonton.

Ya, forgot Stephens just goes to show deep this team is now.

I heard the Jarry rumor today and it's interesting. He would be an expensive insurance plan. If they were to go for Jarry I see no hole in the roster.

Also have you heard anything about Olsen being returned to the Rockets. There was plenty of chatter over the last few weeks but I haven't heard anything the last few days. He is an excellent finisher and would be excellent on Leon's wing.

I wouldn't call the Jarry thing a rumour. I just think it's been thrown out there on Twitter by few people, myself included. And he'd be far from an "insurance plan". He's backboned a team to a WHL title and Memorial Cup title. He would be as big of part of a winning team as any other player on that roster if they did ever acquire him.

As for Olsen, last I heard it wasn't happening. But who knows, that could change.

I interpreted insurance plan as "Ensure that we'll dominate the league throughout the season and playoffs".

This is a stacked team and I think Draisaitl is going to fit in real well on the 1st or 2nd line. They have the offensive talent to give him some smart wingers who can get to the net.

Two points so far tonight in his Rockets debut. Both coming in the 2nd period. His goal came off the rush, using speed to blow through the neutral zone before wiring home a wrister with virtually no windup. Great shot.

I thought he wasnt AHL eligible can someone explain how he's eligible for the AHL.

Late birthdays (September 16-December 31) have to wait an extra year for the draft, but are eligible for the AHL with the rest of the players from their birth year. Ie, any CHL born in 1995 is eligible for the AHL next season.

For example, Ryan Pulock (October 1994) and Max Domi (March 1995) were both first time draft eligibles in 2013. But because Pulock was born in 1994, he's eligible to play in the AHL in 2014-15 whereas Domi wasn't.

Draisaitil (October 1995) would be AHL eligible next season.

Oh ok thanks

6 points in 2 games now. Yup, the Oilers sure hurt his development.

Is this serious? He's a 3rd overall pick going from NHL pace to junior pace obviously he should produce, he did so on a much less stacked PA team last year. Wait to see him consistently in the NHL before we can gauge his development properly.

It was okay for numerous people on here to call him a bust after 37 NHL games though.

Exactly. The hypocrisy on these boards are amazing. Quote 6 points in 2 games and they will use sample size. But apparently 37 games is enough to label him as a bust.

The point was, he is tearing it up in the WHL. Being sent down didn't "hurt" his development like many claim.

He's not a bust or a success yet, he's still only in the WHL tearing it up won't mean anything if he's doing what is expected, he has to do it at a higher level.

Hahahaha, so true. I remember seeing those posts. Bennett vs Draisaitl was to be exact. Had some people calling Draisaitl a bust already. Typical one sided crap against anything related to the oilers as usual.

He's looked solid whenever I've seen him on Kelowna. He knows what he needs to work on this summer to try and stick in the NHL next season since he's played at that level.

He's being shifted from line to line and has somehow caught fire still. Not bad for a bust

Who would say being sent down would hurt his development? If anything it would help his development. Keeping him up in the show would hurt..

It's so weird how this board acts...on one hand we've got people saying Kessel and Phaneuf aren't worth a lot because of leadership issues, yet those same people go on to take Joe Thornton over Henrik Sedin  it's 'kay though, you guys have a beauty in Draisaitl

Ive heard from different sources hes playing all over the line up and more in a shutdown role as opposed to a pure scoring role. He is also playing less minutes due to a stacked team. His pts/min are roughly equal to where he was last year which is good. However the more important thing is that his two way game is coming around and apparently he is great defensively now.

If he wants to become Kopitar-lite, a great defensive game is needed

This is important, and I think one lesson he could take away from his time in Edmonton is that, unlike junior, you're not just going to "end up" with chances to produce offensively by virtue of being out at the same time with other offensively talented players. You'll get more chances at the top level from using defense to create mistakes/opportunities, and if that's what he has learned and is focusing on, it should pay off in the long run.

One of the reasons that I scoffed at him being hurt by his time in Edmonton is that he worked on both sides of the puck. For example he played a better defensive game than Sam Gagner did the previous season. He cares about becoming a two way guy, he has a good head on his shoulders and barring major injuries which could be said of any player, IMO he'll be a solid NHLer.
