For thosr of you that see him live and more often, has his skating improved?

I've seen just about every Rockets home game this year. His speed rarely stands out to me. His possession and vision is absolutely phenomenal though. He's able to hold on to the puck and make passes like no one I've seen on the Rockets the past 4 years since I've been a STH. He is a beast physically in the WHL.

That being said, apparently he won the fastest skater at the Oilers skills competition:

Thanks for that.

We all know he has the hands and a special understanding for the game. Its his first step that ill`s me a bit. He needs to get his feet moving...

He single handedly picked the Royals apart last night. Really close game and a gutsy effort by Victoria but in the end Draisatl was the difference. Led the comeback with an awesome dangle off the rush to set up the second goal and scored the winner with 42 seconds to go.

Agreed. His vision/hands were awesome last night.

Also liked Morrissey a lot - played physically and made a bunch of great close out/transition plays. One stupidish penalty but oh well.

Looks like he's absolutely tearing it up.

What do Oilers fans think, do you guys expect him to be NHL ready for next season? Or do you think it would be best to let him develop one more season away from the big leagues?

He still needs to fix his first step. His overall skating is fine once he gets going, but last year he ended up behind the play because he couldn't get going fast enough off the hop.

This is fixable, and our coaching staff as far as skating goes is actually uncharacteristically competent, so I think they can remedy this.

That said, he shouldn't see the NHL again until he shows some notable improvement in this regard.

The rest of his game is at the least NHL ready, provided we can give him a more balanced roster to come back to. Part of that seems to be happening in large part due to the coaching change.

Although he will most likely be playing into the summer, since Kelowna are Mem cup contenders, He has a great work ethic and wouldn't be surprised if he stayed in Edmonton again this summer with Yak to work on his foot speed.

He was slow last year in the dub, and improved his skating a lot before Oilers camp, still had weak acceleration but his top end speed was a good surprise. Some explosion would do wonders for his game.

I would like to see him in the AHL next year, at least for the first 50-60 games. It's not just skating he needs to work on, but overall body positioning as well. He needs to prove that he can use his size effectively against pro's before making the jump.

He'd be fine playing next year but i hope he stays down for another year to develop his foot speed. Even how it is right now, he has all the tools to be a top 6 NHLer as his passing and vision is pretty underrated and he has great possession along the boards along with a good shot. If he can pick up his foot speed a bit he could be a Galchenyuk-esque type player, seeing as Chucky isn't that quick of a player but does everything else right.

I have seen Draisaitl play live three times in the last few weeks..

He is incredible...

Out of this world hands and there are zero skating issues..

The Oilers have actually not destroyed him yet...

He'll be a player, especially if he can improve his first step. I was hoping that we'd land one of Ekblad or Draisaitl at the draft last year so I was thrilled when we landed Leon at #3.

How is Bennet doing anyway?

He was just cleared to play and sent down to Kingston a couple days ago. I'm hoping the best for the kid because he should be an exciting player in the league.

He definitely has skating issues at the NHL level or he'd still be there, but they're fixable. We see it constantly with prospects. Just improving his fitness will do a lot for it, then working with a power skating coach should complete the rest. He simply needs to improve his first couple steps if he's going to be the high-end, impact player I think he's capable of being. Though they play different games, the same things apply to Reinhart.

Good to see hes back up near 2 ppg pace then past 8 or so games, this is where Id expect him.

His passing seems to somehow gotten better. He has also appeared to develop a physical edge to him.

AHL to start next season I hope. But to be honest, the way he looks most nights in the WHL itll be hard to keep him down

43 points in 26 games now (1.65 ppg) while still playing heavy defensive minutes and not playing much top line PP minutes at this point.

Would have liked to see him in the AHL this season because thatd be better for him. He is overpowering 18 year olds in junior which isn't really helpful. Good to see him turn into a very good 2 way guy, but needs to be playing against men

Does he have a similar play style to Dylan strome? Which of the two have better skating?
